Update on Steve Bullock (personal email)

(I met with him on his Presidential prospects in December)

Some updates about Governor Bullock

Steve Bullock's Big Sky Values PAC is dedicated to taking action on the issues that matter to Democrats. If you’d like to only receive our most important email updates, click here. If you’d like to unsubscribe, click here.

A powerful case for Governor Bullock to have a voice on the national stage was penned in the Washington Post last week. I wanted to share it with a five star recommendation.

Why Democrats should hope Steve Bullock runs

If a synopsis is more your speed, the piece makes four critical points stressing how an unknown yet successful Governor far away from the traditional power centers of politics can provide Democrats a unique voice and perspective:

Bullock won reelection in 2016 when Trump took Montana by 20 points and has recently posted approval ratings of 91% among Democrats and 72% among independents in Big Sky Country.

"Bullock presents himself as a unifying force in the party, which he says cannot merely play to coastal elites. He tells Democrats to show up everywhere and stress the bread-and-butter issues."

Expanding Medicaid, campaign finance reform, investments in education, environmental protections: Bullock has racked up progressive accomplishments in a red state while standing firm on unifying progressive values.

Dark money has no enemy like Bullock.

Some Quick Hits:

This weekend Bullock made good on a commitment to visit Carroll, Iowa, after a planned trip just before the 2018 election had to be rescheduled. He added a trip to Fort Dodge and spent a day meeting with local leaders and activists in Des Moines to listen to their concerns about 2020 and share how successes in Montana could be instructive nationwide.

It was Bullock's fifth trip to Iowa since the start of 2018 and he was accompanied by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller. A good friend, Miller won reelection to his 10th term in his uncontested 2018 election.

It shouldn't have to be said... Declaring a national emergency to fund an unnecessary construction project Congress has not authorized is not one of the powers of the presidency:

In Montana there's a common joke that trends can take a bit longer to find their home under the Big Sky. It may or may not be true, but what never gets old... getting a laugh from your kids.

I like Steve Bullock and I can see him resonating, in Iowa in particular, so it is good to know that he is considering running. His executive experience would be a valuable addition to our field of candidates. I'm a sucker for an underdog, and get slight Jimmy Carter-type vibes about his possible presidential run.

I'm also very much an admirer of your current presidential favorite, John Hickenlooper. I have a feeling my own choice will be between the two governors. I doubt both will run, so perhaps that decision will be made for me.

Please keep us updated on any Bullock/Hickenlooper news.
