Beto O'Rourke stumps with his wife amid struggles with women

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Beto O'Rourke stumbled with women from the start, featuring his wife sitting silently in his presidential campaign launch video and joking repeatedly about being a part-time parent.

But with his campaign at risk of stalling, O'Rourke is attempting to improve his standing with female voters. His wife, Amy, will begin a rare string of campaign appearances on Friday in Iowa, speaking at joint events and making herself available to chat and take pictures with would-be supporters.

Her presence will be an important test of whether Beto O'Rourke can reverse his less-than-favorable first impressions with women. It's an unusual position for a candidate whose appeal with women helped make him a national political phenomenon while nearly upsetting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz last fall. And it shows how much work has to be done to get his presidential bid back on track.

"Any perceived entitlement by a young white male candidate did disqualify him with some young women activists," Judy Downs, executive director of the Des Moines-area Polk County Democratic Party, said of O'Rourke. Downs remains undecided in the party's 2020 primary but added, "In a field where we have 24 qualified candidates, that kind of small-level of gaffe can be enough to cut someone off the list."

the vanity fair piece really hurt him with their misrepresenting what he actually said and it has made people not take him seriously .

I think he needs to focus on his computer/tech background . Tie that in with the usual issues like jobs, education, and even foreign policy because of issues like foreign countries hacking into our systems.

Make the case that our country needs someone like him to deal with the new issues that come up with in this world that is changing so fast technologically and becoming more connected.

He can talk and show about how we can use these changes to improve our country and lives. This would help set him apart from everyone else and allow his being younger to work for him.

Do some serious boring nerdy type events where he goes into details. Not with cheering crowds but people who are experts . it would be good to have a few videos of these type of things out there. and this is a good time because it's early and he has time.

once people start seeing him as ready to be President he can easily make the case for electability .

If not, you should check it out to get a true understanding of what Beto brings to the table and just as important...what he is able to bring out in others.

During his Senate campaign, they focused on stupid stuff from his younger days, but now the framing is different and pernicious (basically he's been pigeonholed by the pundit class as some kind of narcissistic loser, and they routinely avoid mentioning him or his proposals).

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

and he also knows that he is less popular than Cruz so they fear Beto as someone that could win Texas. If Beto wins Texas and all of the other states that Hillary Clinton won in 2016, the the race is over. Every other candidate (except for possibly Biden) is counting on either flipping two or three states that Trump won in 2016.

I’ve been saying that to anyone who will listen since Beto’s Senate run. Things are turning sour for Trump there, particularly with the eminent domain resumptions required for his f’ing fence.
