That Mr. Pakman is monetizing his YouTube videos is not surprising, of course. He has to make a living, after all. However, I do object to postings of monetized ads in DU threads. That is just commercial spam, as far as I'm concerned.

As for Pakman, his brand of attack messaging has no appeal for me. It reminds me of H.A. Goodman from 2016.

Is that the standard? Because that's going to be pretty limited.

Most videos posted here do not display a 30-second ad you can't opt out of. This one did. Worthless.

So, I saw the ad. So will anyone else who chooses not to allow add-ons to interfere with their internet browsing.

I mean, you don't have to like Pakman. I don't like a lot of things he says. But "spam"? Seems a bit extreme.

But, on point, what is the standard for something being spam? Is it that they have monetized their YouTube channel? And, if so, do I have your support in calling anything that is monetized on YouTube spam?

Instead, I apply my own policies on which sites to visit and their content. If there are too many ads, that site loses my eyes.

The person indicated that it was an ad at the beginning that they couldn't skip. I assumed that was a monetized ad from YouTube. My bad on that. Now that I let it play, I found I was able to skip it pretty easily with the time bar on YouTube.

Still don't know why someone having a sponsor makes this spam. And it's for a language learning app--not like it's for the Trump Foundation or something.

He is a snake oil salesman. I would put him on par with HA Goodman.

I'm not saying you have to like him (there is a lot I don't like about him), but if the key to being spam is to have an ad on your video, then that's good to know.

That is marketing, pure and simple. It doesn't matter if it's for a learning app or Amazon, it's commercial monetization.

I don't disagree with 100% of what Pakman says. I don't like a lot of his stuff.

And I hope that you will then cut against all commercial monetization that shows up here. Because I'm going to guess there are a lot of YouTube videos that are posted here that are monetized.

this poster appears to be marketing, or you wouldn't attack the strawman that I don't think that any monetized videos get shared. You were the one that was making the distinction that certain types of ads were somehow 'less' wrong. I simply pointed out that all ads are commercial.



If you had read my post, you would understand that the main reason is that this poster posts NOTHING ELSE but links to the Pakman Show. This appears to be the ONLY reason that this poster comes to DU.

Just because you really like videos doesn't negate that they have commercial ads, and that the poster appears to have only one reason for being on DU, and that is to promote these monetized videos.

Because if it wasn't, I wouldn't watch much on YouTube.

It does seem weird that this person only posts videos from one account. I'm assuming the powers that be would ban that account if that were problematic. Randomly complaining about it doesn't seem to do anything.

Every post this poster has made since Dec 2015 has been an OP linking to a David Pakman video.

Not that I watch him. He's on my list from 2015-16 of those sabotaging Democrats while pretending to be for progressive government. Turns out he was promoting capital-P "Progressives" instead, or possibly even posturing at that. Don't know, but given what went on and what operatives like him "accomplished" in 2016, they should all be given very cool scrutiny.
