Warren Rejecting Fox News may have Helped Her

She didn't just turn them down but called out their spreading hatred.

I remember at the time people were saying she was wrong and would make her look weak. this of course is not true since she speaks to conservatives all the time by going directly to them.

but i think it has ended up helping her instead.

and people will remember everytime we hear about the bs that comes from fox which is just about everyday.

Now, like you, I too am thinking that, ultimately, she might have been right and it could have ended up helping her and contributed to her recent surge.

In any case... go Elizabeth!!

She plays well, for a Democrat at least, in deep red areas, not least because that’s where she grew up. The irony is many “sophisticated” people who wouldn’t be caught dead in places like Kermit, WV, and Chillicothe, OH, where she campaigned the week she trashed Fox immediately concluded she was turning her back on towns like that. Wrong.

Her rationale was dead on....why help their ratings and lure back sponsors? Or help them say they are “fair and balanced”.

Hannity going after Nancy saying she wanted Trump in Prison when he was just fine with Trump and his fans chanting “Lock Her Up” about Hillary is hypocrisy personified.

think someone is going to remove the scales from their eyes by a single appearance?

That's ridiculous, and flies in the face for what we know about confirmation bias. If anything, an appearance strengthens a Fox viewer's preconceived beliefs because they only hear what validates what they think already.

No one can prove a negative though. So some can say she is doing well because she reneged on the offer. But we don't know how she'd be doing if she had appeared. Does anyone really think her numbers would be down if she had appeared? So what's to lose? Didn't seem to hurt Mayor Pete or Bernie. Denying Fox News a bunch of ad money during that event? A drop in the bucket of their annual profits.

I would venture to say that she'd be in even better shape if she had appeared on a town hall there. To address another responder, that Fox viewers are so tightly bound in a bubble it would do no good, I think that is wrong. Fox News, whether we like it or not, is the highest watched news network. That means many people watch it from the most die hard deplorable to the casual viewer who watches because its always on in their favourite restaurant. Or another family member always watches. Or maybe, just maybe, there are even a few that regret their last vote for Trump but don't have a clue what any Democrat, like Warren, can offer them because they only listen to and watch RW media.

it was an opportunity wasted. Does anyone think that if you weigh the two options, appearing or not appearing, that she damaged their message more by criticizing them, and by extention, their viewers, and running away, or appearing with the opportunity of reaching even if its just a small percent of viewers, who at least respect that she came on?

....is one of my main concerns. That her viewers feel she's tacity called them "the deplorables", and is disdaining them.

Even if she doesn't change many of their-cult like minds by appearing----something of her message may get through. Even if it's just her authenticy. Any face to face with Warren for sure challenges the demonized picture created by Hannity/Trump.

Well, I guess it mattered for those candidates without any brand recognition. It gave them another platform.

If a voter says, "Oh my Gerd... so and so went on Fox... I can not vote for them!!??!?1", then that voter was unreachable to begin with.

Warren didn't need the extra publicity. I don't think Buttigieg did either, but there was value in someone from the LGBTQI community wading into the lion's den and throwing their toxicity in the face of Fox.

I remember that Sanders went on Fox, but I can't recall the others who did. And I follow this stuff daily.

“A lot of people in my party were critical of me doing this, and I get where that’s coming from, especially when you see what goes on with some of the opinion hosts on this network,” Buttigieg said Sunday. “But I also believe that even though some of those hosts are not always there in good faith, I think a lot of people tune into this network who do it in good faith.”

“There are a lot of Americans who my party can’t blame if they are ignoring our message, because they will never hear it if we don’t go on and talk about it,” Buttigieg said Sunday.
