K.C. Cayo, the "activist" confronting Biden yesterday, can't keep her questionable story straight

There's already one thread about the wannabe Twitter star here

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1287&pid=148002

with a very misleading subject line saying Biden confronted her. It was clear from her tweets about the incident she set up that she meant to confront him.

I'm posting a separate DU topic about this because she's now decided to add to her minutes of fame on Twitter with a ridiiculous piece written for Vice:

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/3k3jgj/joe-biden-wagged-finger-at-activist-in-viral-twitter-photo

Her poorly staged confrontation with Biden was also mentioned in a Slate op-ed linked to in another thread here attacking Biden.

Sigh.

As with Lucy Flores's story, Cayo's story is full of holes, where she shredded her own credibility.

First of all, though she apparently had access to video of the encounter, she posted one still photo and a GIF looping a second or two of video to try to make Biden look bad.

IF his behavior had been as bad as she alleges, then actually showing her intended, desired audience video with audio would have been more convincing. But I suspect it would have undercut her claims and made it clear she was harassing him (even the photo she's posted also shows she's smirking about it).

Secondly, she can't keep her own account of the confrontation straight, in terms of what she said to him.

She tweeted this yesterday about what she said to Biden:

Told Biden we need someone stronger on reproductive justice, and after his reversal on the Hyde Amendment, we asked him to protect assault survivors. He said “nobody has spoken about it, done more, or changed more than I have”. I told him we deserve better.

And when one of her followers asked her "What did you say when you said we deserve better?" she tweeted this:

He brought up VAWA for no apparent reason and then turned his back on us. I shouted that after him.

As I pointed out in the earlier thread about this twit's ambush of Biden, since she'd said she brought up protecting assault survivors, the Violence Against Women Act, which Biden was responsible for, was relevant, and Cayo seems foolish pretending in that tweet that he'd brought up VAWA "for no apparent reason" when her tweets explain the reason.

Her story about that changed in the piece she wrote for Vice:

We got in Biden’s selfie line. First he got to Fran, the woman in the photo with me. She asked him if he was willing or interested in reforming and restructuring our courts. He said something noncommittal—something along the lines of, “I need to think about it.”

Then I reached out to shake his hand and pick up where she’d left off. I said, “Ok, that’s great, because we’re personally very concerned with your stance on abortion, which is a lot more conservative.” Specifically, we were concerned about his less-than-24-hour flip on the Hyde Amendment. That’s where things got confusing: His tactic to deflect us was to keep talking about the Violence Against Women Act [which established the Office on Violence Against Women and funded groups providing resources to victims of gendered violence], as if he didn’t understand what the Hyde Amendment was, so I said, “No, we’re not talking about that.” We asked him to protect survivors. Then he leaned in very close to my face, and started wagging his finger at me. He said, “Nobody has spoken about it, done more, or changed more than I have.” When he walked away I shouted after him, “We deserve better.”

We left after that because we didn’t want anything to escalate; we didn’t want to be in a shouting match.

Note that she was the one doing the shouting.

Also note that in this longer account of what happened, she's completely left out the part of her Twitter account where she admits "we asked him to protect assault survivors" before the subject of VAWA came up.

The part where she herself changed the subject from the Hyde Amendment to assault survivors, which was apparently when Biden mentioned the Violence Against Women Act. A perfectly natural time to mention it.

But in this longer account written for Vice, she's gone from saying Biden was talking about VAWA "for no apparent reason" to claiming this:

His tactic to deflect us was to keep talking about the Violence Against Women Act [which established the Office on Violence Against Women and funded groups providing resources to victims of gendered violence], as if he didn’t understand what the Hyde Amendment was.

So she's not only changing her story, she's lying about Biden's reason for bringing up VAWA.

There's nothing in her Twitter account or the account written for Vice that explains that Biden was responsible for VAWA. She doesn't give him any credit for it. I don't know if she's so ignorant she doesn't know where that legislation came from, or if she's trying to pretend it's irrelevant.

But I do know that when her story changes this much in one day, and when she shows only a second or two of an encounter she apparently has video of, then her version of events is extremely questionable and should not be accepted as true.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

The video was from two different sources. One showed the heckler in the opposite direction. The woman who posted the photo was by the men in the hats behind Biden, and he moves a little after the heckler and you can see her. On the other thread people are and were accusing this woman of being disruptive and heckling and she was NOT. False claims about her is most like leading to her getting all kinds of threats on twitter and it is WRONG. All she did was ask him a tough question just like any other candidate gets and he reacted poorly.

to do with her waiting in line with a camera friend to capture her closeup moment. She clearly had motives to get a gotcha moment and she is building and revising her story around that motive.

Its notable that yesterday she was whining about Biden as a frontrunner, so that is a good insight into her motives—his frontrunner status. We’ve seen this before and these people can’t keep their stories straight.

straight. The smirk she's wearing in the only photo she posted makes it appear that she was very clearly delighted about antagonizing him, and doing so at close range in a selfie line, where other people who wanted to meet him, people who were there for sincere reasons, were waiting for their chance to talk to him.

This wasn't a town hall. She ambushed him in a selfie line, and she's given conflicting versions of what was said.

He was heckled by a man and a woman...but NOT the woman who posted the photo. She was standing behind him, and in one video the angle of the camera only shows her when he moves a bit to the side. In the other video she is visible the entire time. She did NOT disrupt anything. She even clapped at the end of his speech.

Based on what I took from reading her comments...she got in line because she wanted to say that women deserve a candidate who protects women and ask that assault survivors be protected. She hoped to have a serious discussion with him about the issue. He responded by saying that no one has done more than him while shaking his finger at her. When he turned around she shouted that "we deserve better." I can't recall the exact wording but to me it sounded like a woman who cares about the issue and wanted to let Biden know how she felt and he reacted defensively. Now she is being attacked. I don't think that is OK.

We all justifiably become frustrated when we see Trump supporters twist themselves into pretzels in order to defend his bad behavior. While this is not anywhere near the same level as most of what Trump does, let's not ever risk mirroring that same kind of excuse making. It's not a good look.

And with that, I'm trashing this thread because I'm so NOT okay with the kind of hatred and ugly remarks I'm seeing posted about her on social media. I hope others will re-think things.

I don't think it happened even close to how she stated. Before the "famous" tweet she actually tweeted that it was uneventful. She has almost no noticeable action outside of this on her twitter account. A couple of likes here and there.

This is a part of the "lefts" scorched earth campaign.

There is a reason quotation marks were put around the word left in my post.

"It’s a certain subset of a certain candidates supporters who are behind the smears"

That certain subset always bills themselves as being the leftiest.

And who trained who to do what, where? And more importantly, why ?

Also, may I say that her well publicized tweet speaks for itself, and that you appear to be admitting that she went to this rally with the intention of pulling a stunt, and that there are others involved, and that you know who they are.

So by all means let's hear the whole story.

a dialogue about the “frontrunner” which was clearly her motive, along with her photographer pal who was with her to capture her closeup.

This wasn’t about women’s issues or “questions”. It was about creating a dustup that she and other folks such as yourself who don’t prefer Biden can use to continue to create damaging narrative about him. C’mon! Quit insulting our intelligence. It gets really old.

she has far more Warren and Pete ad Harris and AOC/Tlaib/Omar tweets than any about Bernie ( 1 Bernie tweet in the past 3, 4 months and 3 retweets from February (when he officially announced) nothing before that)

Unless you have proof of her actually being a Bernie supporter (some supporter, she has one tweet on Bernie in the past 3, 4 months and 3 retweets out of hundreds) I think you are making it up to fit a really dodgy narrative

she seems to go to multiple candidate events, and certainly is not dropping 'Berner bombs' on her feed

Berners (especially those who would work with Sirota (I have seen that slander tossed out her, insulating she is on the Russian payroll) would never post so many pro Warren, pro Yang, pro-Booker, pro Buttigieg things, pro Harris things and literally almost nothing about Bernie (one pic of him at a rally she was at plus several long ago retweets when he jumped in)

I see nothing to indicate she is a Bernie supporter inn the sense that you are slanting things at all and I went all the way to the begging of her tweets

she seems far more pro Warren and Harris and Pete

and there is also no way for you to spin this that makes Biden look good

After 9/11 we all said we were changed. That we were stronger and more united. That’s what “never forget” was about. Now, a president uses that dark day to incite his base against a member of Congress, as if for sport. As if we learned nothing that day about the workings of hate.

We have Bernie supporters on DU who show that they're undecided or supporting other candidates.
