FYI: when candidates drop out

We have a mechanism in place for when candidates in DU’s candidate list either officially drop out or declare that they’re not running.

The candidate will be added to a separate row at the bottom of the candidate preference and ranking tables indicating that they are not running/no longer running, and everyone who has set their preference to that candidate will be moved to “Undecided.”

Expect this to happen very shortly to Sherrod Brown, who has officially announced that he is not running.

Thanks for reading,

EarlG (DU Admin)

I think he'd make a great candidate and a great president, but I can't fault his decision not to run. I'm glad he's thinking strategically about the future of the Democratic party.

The Senate, like the electoral college, is horribly anti-democratic. Dems are at a major disadvantage and it's only getting worse with the increased concentration of the population.

I realize this is just for the benefit of DUers, but it would still be interesting to put numbers to those percentages.

Thanks! to the admins for the way in which they've elected to handle the primaries and this forum.

He is a Democratic mayor of a MW city in a reddish state ("reddish" in that IN seems to tilt either way depending on who is running and what the economy is like) and he is gay. I expect he figures if he can talk to issues that are foremost in people's minds, the so-called "social wedge" issues could fade to the background.

I think he is the only one of the declared (or leaning) who is from the Midwest.

An unknown mayor of an non-huge city has almost no chance of winning. So there's another reason. Sometimes it's to get name recognition, so the person can get more of a chance when running for something else. Senator, maybe? Governor?

Right now "Undecided" isn't exactly capturing my mood.

All the Dems are better than any possible republican (Trump or otherwise) but I'm in a group that they all throw under the bus*. Except Brown, and now he's out.

*So far as I've been able to tell. Cosponsoring or failing to cosponsor legislation is a bit of a tell. Oh well.
