4:00 PM - 5:00 p.m.
Where: 503 South Street, Waterloo, Iowa 50701
The lower level lobby of the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum
Former Admiral Joe Sestak operated with the USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) a number of times during his 31-year naval career. For his first event as a Presidential candidate, he commemorates the sacrifice of the worlds greatest generation epitomized by the five Sullivan brothers who gave the greatest sacrifice of all that won the second of two world wars in 26 years. When this selfless generation came home from defeating the horrors of fascism and imperialism, they swore it wouldnt happen again a third time to us. They kept their promise by building the liberal world order based upon the rules of individual and human rights, open and fair markets, fair and just governments. It was one that embraced the worlds collective good. Whether Stalinism or human rights atrocities, dire poverty or world recessions, we convened the world by the power of these ideals. By bringing together those that shared these values in multilateral organizations and agreements, and by leading those efforts, we all became stronger, safer, healthier and more prosperous in our freedoms. And that that, is what really makes America First. And that is why Americas retreat from the world today is so dangerous and damaging to our American Dream.
Joe will not only speak to the issue of restoring U.S. global leadership to the world to protect our American Dream at home, but also about the issue of accountability in answering for oneself epitomized by the sacrifice of the Sullivans. And why we must gain the trust of Americans all Americans if we are to meet the defining challenges of our time.
