2020 Democratic candidate Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) said on Sunday that he doesnt understand how 2020 rival Joe Biden can argue that his comments about segregationists was taken out of context.
During an interview with Al Sharpton on Saturday, Biden said the media didnt print the whole deal on his nostalgic remarks about working with segregationist lawmakers, and that the context of this was totally different.
I didnt understand that, Booker told This Week host Martha Raddatz. I listened to the full totality of what he was talking about, and frankly, I heard from many, many African-Americans who found the comments hurtful.
However, Booker added that his call with Biden on Wednesday was very constructive and that he has a tremendous amount of respect for the former vice president.

(11,746 posts)Can we question his record? The idea of holding one's nose and working with odious people is not popular at the moment but is it really a negative that Joe Biden has this experience from which to draw?
I don't think so. I am not sold on Biden but I think this "gaffe" is a non-issue except we do need to deal with it when the moron tries to gaslight us.

(2,113 posts)When speaking of segregationists, the word "boy," no matter WHAT the context, is essentially no different than using the n-word. There is NEVER an "ok" context to use a racial disparaging word/term....EVER.
Until Biden (and his supporters) are able to acknowledge this fact and Biden shows that he finally gets it, this issue is not going to go away. He needs to just fix it and stop being so defensive and start actually listening so he stops this self-sabotage.

(11,746 posts)Or maybe it's the rest of us who could use more discipline? The moron and his Russian masters inflicted just enough of us with drama like this to win. They can't do that if we don't let them.

(5,811 posts)First, he is NOT Obama. Not even close.
Second, African Americans REMEMBER him dragging President Obama when he was supposed to be a surrogate on a policy issue on one of the political talk shows.
Third, African Americans don't appreciate (and I'm putting it mildly) him going after President Obama's wingman (Vice President Biden) for 8 years.
Fourth, African Americans, especially the older crowd like me, know if Booker were the nom or on the ticket, he would be a magnate for scandals and conspiracy theories in a way no other candidate could possibly generate.
Fifth, Booker is up for re-election in 2020.
