Buttigieg campaign hiring faith engagement director

The Hill

Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg's campaign is hiring a faith engagement director in an effort to connect the campaign to faith communities across the country.

The position, which is listed on the campaign website as full-time, is Buttigieg's latest move to court religious voters.

It is the latest attempt from the Democratic side to galvanize a religious voting bloc, something Republicans have successfully been able to do for decades.

In fact, evangelical Christians are already gearing up to get behind President Trump in 2020, with the Faith and Freedom Coalition set to spend tens of millions of dollars on registering 1 million Christians in key battleground states.

While Democratic voters and campaigns have struggled to coalesce around faith, Buttigieg, who is a practicing Episcopalian, has set himself apart, making faith a major part of his campaign platform.

We need to listen to people of faith. Most of our winning candidates practice some religion. Our leaders often speak in African-American churches. We can't let repiggies hold a monopoly on faith. Pointing out their hypocrisy is not enough!

He's not trying to shove his religion down everyone's throat.

He IS trying to show how he lives his life, on the campaign trail and at home in South Bend.

What a huge contrast with tRump, and with any republican! These hypocrites mouth sanctimonious garbage while they exploit everyone underneath them.

Buttigieg doesn't parade his religion around but he obviously lives by it, in word and deed. I repeat: this is a good move on his part.

No religion in politics. Lets’s deal with reality, not fantasy.
