Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI don't suspect Michael Bennet's campaign will last long, and that's a shame.
He has an excellent combination of head and heart and a level-headed demeanor that would be so calming to have in the White House. I appreciated that he was unafraid to offer alternatives to Medicare For All as well as criticize the Obama administration's deals with McConnell that he perceived to be giveaways to the Tea Party.
Bennet is there to solve problems, not showboat, and that's really refreshing.

(APPLAUSE)
BENNET: The problem with what...
TODD: Yeah, 30 seconds. Go ahead.
BENNET: Sometimes you do have to beat them, but -- but the deal that he talked about with Mitch McConnell was a complete victory for the Tea Party. It extended the Bush tax cuts permanently. The Democratic Party had been running against that for 10 years.
We lost that economic argument, because that deal extended almost all those Bush tax cuts permanently and put in place the mindless cuts that we still are dealing with today that are called the sequester. That was a great deal for Mitch McConnell.
BIDEN: Oh, come on.
BENNET: It was a terrible deal for America.

(26,644 posts)He was appointed in 08 when Obama put Salazar in his cabinet. He ran for his seat in 2010, I supported Romanoff in the primary, but Bennet prevailed. He ran against crazy ass right winger Ken Buck and it looked like Buck could win. I campaigned hard for Bennet and donated more $ than I could afford. Thank goodness he won. I've grown to like and respect him over the years. He's as honest as they come and smart. He's supported a few bills I felt hurt unions, but 98% of the time, we agree. He won easily in 2016, as did Hillary. I want him to stay in the Senate but he would be an excellent president.
