A possible unintended consequence of the busing conversation

Are there anymore sitting senators/congressmen or women who need to be purged for opposing federally mandated busing? Or have they all retired?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

It was a really complex issue, and much of the controversy was meant to distract from the real important issue of ending segregation.

We don't need to re-fight old wars. We just need to LEARN FROM THEM.

It was, indeed, a much more complex issue than the debate stage admitted. Some, at least, of the controversy was centered as much on state's rights as on segregation. But be that as it may, busing is not much of a contemporary issue and I can't see what good it would do to resurrect it now. Harris got her jibes in. We should let it lie.

If Biden is knocked out the race over this, then the next target will be any other elected officials who shared the same view of busing at that time.

your concern is noted. Who, exactly is going to be doing this "targeting" you speak of?

Not down with the "purge" meme, I guess.

I really don't like to see anyone dinged for this old problem. But I also don't like to see Biden supporters echoing what those of us who lived then (and yes, my son was bused for desegregation, and I was upset, and then he went to that school and met several friends who are still his best friends 20 years later) remember as pretty incendiary comments.

We don't need to do this. The Democratic party is the party of inclusion and diversity. Busing was both controversial and sometimes effective, and part of the life history of a lot of people currently in the Democratic party (like Harris). No one did this to hurt children. It was meant to contribute to a remedy to something that WAS meant to hurt children (segregation).

So what would be a good response if anyone asks a candidate about old controversies? I don't know, but knee-jerk defensiveness isn't going to work.

I’ve donated to the campaign of someone who was once a Klansman.

This has gotten a bit absurd.

I feel like I’m not viewed as being a purist around here. 😁

How about we get EVERYONE healthcare, opportunity for a good job, get folks out from under predatory pay day loans and fair lending and banking regulations, and most of all out from this traitorous administration.
