The Democratic candidate and former Congressman will speak at New York Citys Great Lawn of Manhattans Central Park at the fourth annual OZY Fest on Sunday, July 21st. ORourke will be joining Stacey Abrams and John Kasich as the festivals political headliners
ORourke became one of the youngest members to ever sit on the El Paso City Council in 2005, and later became elected for U.S. Congress in 2012, taking on a 16-year incumbert. In Congress, he successfully enacted laws that improved access to health for all veterans, added urgent mental health resources for service members, and permanently protected thousands of acres of natural land. In 2017, he ran the largest grassroots 19-month campaign to represent all 28 million Texans in the U.S. Senate.
Hosted by OZY Media co-founder Carlos Watson and former Yankees all-star Alex Rodriguez, the two-day event will feature live music, conversation, comedy, and food from some of the worlds biggest and boldest thinkers. This years music performances include sets from John Legend, Miguel, Tove Lo, ARIZONA, Jazzy Amra, as well as comedy sets by Trevor Noah, Dulcé Sloan, and Ronny Chieng.
The festival emphasizes its global marketplace, and features a mix of world writers and leaders (Malcolm Gladwell, Deepak Chopra), filmmakers (Spike Lee), celebrity chefs (Padma Lakshmi, Rachael Ray, Marcus Samuelsson), TV personalities and social activists (Jameela Jamil), and industry-leading entrepreneurs (Mark Cuban, Cindy Eckert).
OZY Fest sets itself apart from the usual music festival label, fostering diverse discussions and a wide-sets of entertainment for all people to enjoy in the city that never sleeps. Last years festival attracted over 20,000 attendees, with OZY Fest 2019 looking bigger and better than ever before.

(81,590 posts)At least 500 showed up to listen to him in the heat and humidity. There was a small crowd who had to stand outside. He was dripping in sweat at the end.

(2,113 posts)And I didn't see a single positive post about him. There were a lot of remarks about Castro's motivation for things always being self-serving and that when it really counts he has never really been there for Texas, not like Beto has been. His career in Texas is over and he may have hurt his brother as well just because they sometimes get confused with each other.

(89,271 posts)for a come back from being an underdog. the biggest problem is the media and what they intentionally do , especially jealous types .
but the fact is that Beto is much more appealing than most if not all others. if people just got to see each candidate for themselves they would see that. without ignorant jealous talking heads . the latest was that pig chris christie telling beto to get out . these are the types that the media are going to for comments .
he does need to practice a bit with the debates , but dont overdo it with a goal of winning . mostly focus on just dealing with things like people interrupting him with bs. debates don't matter that much in the long run. Biden did the best in the 2008 debates and Obama didn't stand out much in them. although he didn't do badly so this is what Beto needs to do .
and then focus on where he does well which is pretty much all other events .

(81,590 posts)He often compared his background to Beto's and mentioned the role of affirmative action in his Stanford & Harvard degrees. It's weird

(2,113 posts)He and Beto had rallies about a mile apart Friday night. Beto had over twice as many people and stayed for HOURS meeting everyone who wanted to meet him and taking photos. Apparently Castro talked for about 7 minutes, talked with people for about 10 minutes and left. Beto is authentic and in it for the RIGHT reason...for the PEOPLE. You can tell who is in it for the right reason by their behavior.

(2,113 posts)How they were like the 20th in line and by the time it got to them he was kind of rude and acted like he couldn't be bothered. Then the same person met Beto after about 300 people and he was so nice and friendly. I haven't met either but you can tell a whole lot about a person on video, too.

(81,590 posts)Texans love him not because of what they saw on TV, but because many have seen him in person and interacted with him during his travels throughout the state. By contrast, Julian Castro is widely seen as a mean, arrogant and entitled character.
