Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI'm not thrilled with all of the decisions Kamala made as prosecutor.
She wasn't a progressive prosecutor, (is there such a thing?) and she made some mistakes along the way. (Though keeping prosecution case files confidential, after deciding not to indict people, was the correct choice.)
But the next President is going to be appointing a new Justice Department head who will have to make decisions about whom to prosecute from the current administration. I think a hard-nosed prosecutor could be a very effective campaigner against Trump in the general; and could, after taking office, make sure that the right person will head the Justice Department.
I don't want someone who's just going to decide, for the sake of comity between the parties, that s/he should just give a pass to the crimes of DT, Jared, Ivanka, etc.

(8,231 posts)Honestly, I don't care about her record as prosecutor. It's very freeing to just not care about it!!! Try it you may like it!!!
It's going to take much much much more for me to start ragging on candidates. This ain't it...NEXT.

(43,581 posts)Warren seems like she would have a go at any and all corruption.
Pete, I would hope, as well.
Klobuchar too.
Bullock seems like a no bullshit type.
Inslee does too.
Booker too.

(109,000 posts)The ones I worry about are those who are overly concerned about keeping the mythical centrists happy -- so, anyone who wouldn't want to prosecute the crime family, because it might appear too partisan.

(43,581 posts)de Blasio (who has zero chance) either
Bernie, well, lol, I stay out of Bernie talk as much as possible, it is all so depressing
I think Biden would have a real go at Rump, it is clear he hates him as much as any of the other candidates
the centrist thing, I do not know, that is too many steps ahead for me to weigh and measure with any accuracy
IF Rumps walks away, either in 2021 or 2025, and suffers NO real prosecution of any serious sort, then I will be crushed
he simply must be legally crushed, he has eviscerated a huge amount of legal, social, political norms, including the very concept of truth itself, and is well on his way to wrecking our nation for decades

(2,199 posts)Any Dem, save maybe Gabbard, will restore integrity to the justice department and appoint a person who will serve justice in accordance with the constitution and our laws.
Not a strong enough reason to support her.

(109,000 posts)Castro, Klobuchar. I'm just waiting to see how things shake down and who I think will be strongest against the orange one.
Because all the plans in the world won't matter if the person doesn't beat Trump.

(42,641 posts)President Obama made a decision in 2009 to look forward, and the GOP saw this gesture as weakness. They rewarded Obama with 8 years of obstructionism, open racism, and filibusters, culminating with the Merrick Garland affair that probably changed the SCOTUS for a generation.
The next President, whoever she/he may be, imperfect as she/he is, must not make this mistake.
