Biden isn’t even running yet so the reality is Bernie Sanders is in first place.

Should Joe decide to jump in and actually run and say what’s he for and what he’s against and answer about his spotty political past...his numbers will take a beating.

Talk about going by name recognition, that’s all Biden is doing!

Also agree that Sanders was given great lift over the past 2 years by Republican operations and right-leaning media, as well as radical left, but now that pre- era when he was alone is over and we're in the primary.

Our intelligence services also say that Russia NEVER STOPPED their election interference and that they're well past halfway in their campaigns to defeat our nominee and other candidates in 2020. They may not know who that will be, but that just means they're waiting to put their agitprop machine in highest gear.

It is WAY too soon to make predictions. All that polling shows at this point is who has a base of supporters and/or name recognition and/or something about them that makes people hopeful they might go all the way.

There hasn't even been a single debate. Candidacies can collapse. There is a long record of that happening in American politics.

What polls are useful for is giving the media some guidance on who they think is worth covering. Candidates benefit from being in the top tier in that regard. Other than that it is quicksand. I remember when Joe Lieberman was leading the pack for the 2004 Democratic nomination.

Sometimes I lean toward your thinking. He's a seasoned liberal who a whole lot of people can relate to. Other times I think he will fail to elicit enough passion in enough people to propel him to victory. And i have the same concern about Joe's age as I do about Bernie's. I'm not ruling out either over age but having a President in office in his eighties might be a bridge to the future too far. For both Biden and Sanders their choice of a younger hopefully non white, or female (or both), running mate would be crucial should they get the nomination. But I suspect they already know that.

LOL!!

The poll shows Biden ahead by 17 points but in reality Sanders is in first place?

That's a positively Trumpian spin on what the early numbers indicate.

Guess we're going back to another Bill Clinton moment: it's all about what the word 'reality' means.

Whether we're talking about preference polls or hypothetical matchup polls, name recognition is, by far, the #1 factor at this stage.

history is bound to repeat itself? Or that polls don't mean anything? Particularly the ones we don't like.

But if we're using the history repeats theory: Hillary Clinton won the nomination. Bernie Sanders lost.

I have no interest in repeating the 2016 GE results. Which is why the primary and even early poll numbers are instructive. Not cast in stone but informative.

I would like to have a moderate and a progressive on the same ticket.

They're adults, they can work together. Neither one of them would have gotten to where they are today if they didn't have the ability to "play well with others".
