2020 Democratic hopefuls: party needs to embrace progressive ideals, not Trump voters

Jarrett Renshaw
5 MIN READ

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren told a room full of liberal activists on Saturday that the party needs to fully embrace polices such as higher taxes on the wealthy, wiping out student loan debt and criminal justice reform if they want to win the White House.

The 70-year-old U.S. senator from Massachusetts said these ideas are not only supported by the activists gathered at the Netroots Nation conference in Philadelphia, the largest annual gathering of progressives in the United States, but by large majorities of the American public.

“The progressive agenda is the American agenda,” she said .

Three other Democratic candidates - former U.S. housing Secretary Julian Castro of Texas, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Washington state Governor Jay Inslee - made similar calls for the party to embrace the progressive agenda. But it was Warren who drew the largest applause.

It's not exactly an either-or, and we will of course do both because of that voting thing. You know, the side with the most and in the right places wins?

The message here is that to win we must run another candidate just like Hillary and we must disown AOC and her 3 friends.

7. We won in Republican districts in 2018
Sun Jul 14, 2019, 05:47 AM
Jul 2019

by running on progressive ideas and most importantly we won in 2018 by promising to hold Donald Trump accountable.

The right has a major goal it is pursuing, that goal is to demonize AOC and her 3 friends. The right fears AOC because she has the ability to change the right wing narratives that permeate the M$M. Why is it that when AOC speaks at committee hearings she gets top billing? Why is it, because she does her homework, she comes prepared to ask tough questions, she is the one who gets our Democratic messages reported in the M$M, they cover her because she is a talent who has charisma and she is bringing new voters into our party. I'm glad she's on our side.

Oh and she reminds me of a young Nancy Pelosi.

Anyone see Steny Hoyer?

I don't watch cable news. All that I know from my news sources is that we won in 2018 because we promised to hold Donald Trump accountable and yes we also ran on progressive ideas. My #1 reason for voting was to hold Donald Trump accountable.

I'm an FDR Democrat so I support single payer health care. I am on Socialistic Medicare and Socialistic Social Security. I also get a pension, something that is a thing of the past because Democrats moved to the right and supported Reagan talking points that unions are bad. Too bad that only 6% of the private sector is unionized, we can trace the decline in real wages for the working class to the decline in labor unions. Many working class people still believe right wing propaganda that unions are bad.

I get my news from progressive outlets so I may be brainwashed by liberals, maybe I'm wrong?

How did we do a blue tsunami because of the ACA? My wife and I voted to hold Trump accountable, we are not on the ACA although we support it. How many voters were on the ACA? What %? I know Republicans who are on the ACA who I am certain did not vote Democratic.

Are people who are on the ACA opposed to single payer health care? I bet they aren't.

I followed the Democratic candidates in my district, they ran against Donald Trump, they ran to hold him accountable. My district in central Pa. is gerrymandered, it will never elect a Democratic Representative. I only really get to vote for state wide races.

Again, help me out, my news sources are telling me that we won a blue tsunami because people want a check on Donald Trump. Was it really people who are on the ACA who gave us a blue tsunami? Don't all Democrats support the ACA?

or from M$M print publications. OK, you can watch Nicolle and Rachel but that's it.

After 2 weeks of doing that just to get you prepared, just listen to 121 or 127 Sirius radio for your news, warning, you are going to get everyone talking about the importance of impeachment now, you are going to hear only progressive talking points. It will take a while for you to come down from not hearing any right wing talking points, it is like withdrawal.

Try it for 2 or 3 weeks, just Nicolle or Rachel, just Sirius 121 or 127, I promise, it will expel all of the right wing propaganda that creeps into our subconscious minds from watching and reading the M$M.

Sun Jul 14, 2019, 06:25 AM

and throwing nonsense out there to appeal to the left is a sure election loser....as free give aways must be paid for no matter what sanders or warren say.....democratic platform must not vilify wealth or business or success as that is often the way it looks. What we need is the message of making the system fair as well as saying we all have a certain responsibility and accountability.

Every Democratic candidate who is running for president isn't calling for freebies, every proposal is paid for.

I better stop here or I am going to get in trouble with you.

The biggest threat to our economy is income inequality. I voted for Joe Biden in the 2008 primary because I am a big union supporter and our union supported Joe.

Oh and if we go issue by issue to analyze where our country is, the center is really the left, even white supremacists like their Medicare and Social Security.

Joe is a good guy but he is stumbling out of the gate, he better do better in the next debate or he is toast, Harris and Bennet ate his lunch.
