WDM (Iowa) Democrats accused of bias in presidential race

Apparent Sanders supporter calls out Chairman Victor Dutchuk.

I reviewed the number of West Des Moines Democrats' Facebook posts for all candidates dating back to Jan. 1, 2019. In total, there were 51 posts involving individual presidential candidates...

... For your reference the candidates mentioned and the number of times they were mentioned are noted below:

Kamala Harris, 10; Amy Klochubar, 8; Cory Booker, 4; Andrew Yang, 4; Elizabeth Warren, 4; Kirsten Gillibrand, 3; Pete Buttigieg, 3; John Hickenlooper, 3; Eric Swalwell, 3; Joe Biden, 2; Marianne Williamson, 2; Beto O’Rourke, 1; John Delaney, 1; Steve Bullock, 1; Joe Sestak, 1; Bernie Sanders, 1.

Harris received the most recognition and Chairman Victor Dutchuk has publicly stated he is endorsing this candidate. There was no mention on the West Des Moines Democrats' Facebook page about Sanders until after the chairman was questioned about not giving all the candidates equal treatment.

If Dutchuk believes all candidates should receive equal treatment, he should step aside from his role as chairman and West Des Moines Democrats should appoint someone else who can lead the group without bias.

I've never encountered a Democratic organization - club, county, or state-run - that didn't stay neutral in a primary season.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I was Martin O'Malleys precinct captain at my caucus.. and was shouted down by another campaign.. who would not let me talk.. I had never ever ever experienced anything like that.. people who had never been to a caucus before, and for some reason thought that the process of trying to get a 15% for you candidate of choice meant you did not let the other candidates representatives speak.. soooo I sometimes think our people have fallen to the " my way or the highway" type of expression that seems to be so prevalent now..

Edit to add.. I have posted many times.. that Senator Harris has a very loyal following and well liked in Iowa.. not a big as Elizabeth Warrens..but people with a whole lot more punch in our system than most have.. Cory Booker.. hmmmm can't figure that one out...

In Georgia, party leaders are smacked really hard if there's even a whiff of favoritism in a primary race.

6. That used to be taboo, but it's happening more frequently these days. Just a few days ago....

....when Andrew Cuomo was bashing Bill De Blasio's plan to close the prison on Rikers Island, it reminded me that Cuomo (the de facto head of NY's Democratic Party) endorsed Joe Biden a couple of months ago.

Those two have been fighting for years, it's not going to be an easy ride for De Blasio.

He got a lot of mileage from it in 2016, to the point that those who swallowed it then are still under the influence. Is he threatening to file one of his temporary lawsuits yet? The ones he drops before he has to produce evidence?

The DNC and maybe the State Party stays neutral in Primaries. Local clubs and Wards have frequently made endorsements.

9. from the WDM Dems chair...

A message from our Chair, Victor Dutchuk...
There has been some confusion/concern regarding my recent endorsement of Senator Harris. In an effort for transparency and clarity , please note that our by-laws prohibit our organization from endorsing a particular candidate in a contested primary, but they do, however, permit any member including officers to make such an endorsement. My endorsement does not infringe upon my duties as chairperson nor of my goal of sharing information and opportunities with our group. I have sent the following message to my contacts for presidential campaigns:
“As you may have heard, I have officially endorsed Sen Harris for the Democratic nomination for President. I wanted to reach out to you all directly to clarify that although I personally support her, I have not ceased my commitment to Democratic causes or candidates. I believe we are very fortunate to have many quality candidates running for office and regardless of who gets the nomination, she/he has my vote.
Also, I take great pride to ensure our members receive information about all candidates so they can make their own decisions. I also believe in sharing events and opportunities for all campaigns. So, I ask that you please continue to send me emails to distribute to our group and Facebook events to share. Thank you all for your commitment to Democratic values and principals and I hope to see you all at our July meeting!”

primary today, I would vote for:

10. Determining 'bias' based on facebook posts is ludicrous.

I looked at the WDM Dems facebook page and saw no 'bias' for Harris, I saw lots of anti-Trump posts and some posts from candidates. Its called information sharing.

Chris James has too much time on his hands to if he's worried that Sanders isn't getting his due from WDM Dems.

11. Chris James is really upset with the WDM Chair Dutchuk, not the WDM Dems, who accused Sanders

of being a Democrat when it is convenient for him.

I'm beginning to think James and Dutchuk deserve each other.
