Beto O'Rourke's campaign woes

With summer heating up, Beto O'Rourke's campaign cools down

The excitement that greeted Beto O'Rourke's presidential candidacy is long gone. The former Texas congressman has been stuck in low single digits in most polls, and CNN senior Washington correspondent Jeff Zeleny reports he's now running low on cash.

"On the eve of the fundraising deadline for all the candidates to report their money, he's yet to report," Zeleny said. "I'm told by a couple of top supporters familiar with his financial situation that it's bleak.

A few staffers have begun leaving El Paso, moving on to other things. ... He has a lot of high-powered, high-paid staff members so there are discussions going on, I'm told, as to what the next step is.

He's committed to staying in, but it's not the summer he envisioned."

Not trying to put you on the spot, but "better" means being able to adjust to setbacks. The only two candidates that have done that so far are Biden and Warren. Buttigieg is a work in progress, he may recover from the shooting situation, or he may not.

O'Rouke responded to losing the spotlight by going farther into obscurity. When Warren lost the spotlight a few months back, she worked harder at meeting people and laying out policy proposals, and she turned things around in a big way.

Once we have a nominee, republicans are coming after that person. We need a nominee who can take a punch, focus and punch back harder.

I honestly don't. I have plenty of cases where red flags that were ignored after the interview were signaling how the person would perform the job.

We will see how Beto bounces back in the debate that comes up in about two weeks. My belief is that debate is going to majorly shuffle the field. My preference is that our nominee be from among the younger than 60 candidates, I make an exception for Warren because she looks and acts like a person in their forties. So Beto would be among my preferred candidates, the issue is that I have not seen that "IT" from him.

"Once we have a nominee, republicans are coming after that person. We need a nominee who can take a punch, focus and punch back harder."

This competitive primary is testing our candidates and will reveal who can best focus, organize and respond to the attacks that will collectively come from the GOP once we have a nominee. We'll see what happens in the coming months.

The constant barrage of negative stories pretty much put a loser label on him and told people to close their pocketbooks.

The Seth Abramson Twitter thread speaks for itself. And Abramson wasn't the only observer who noticed the character assassination campaign against a honest, decent, and highly talented Democrat.

I like just about everything about him. He is great for the party. I hope this doesn’t put a dent in his confidence and send him back to the private sector to find said lost confidence.

We saw a lot of Beto in Texas, and he had the ability to connect with thousands of people because he addressed their concerns. He won over my husband and me by explaining how congress is all about raising money for the parties. His donors were folks like us, no PACS. I admire his integrity and the fact that he doesn't make himself look good at the expense of a rival. When he came on the national scene as a presidential candidate, he was the target of lots of mean spirited opinion pieces, mostly written by women. I was afraid it would take a toll, and it did. He's a good man, and he has a lot to contribute. I hope he gets the chance to do that.

She is a great candidate and I wish people would stop dismissing her by trying to get Beto to push her out. Even if he doesn’t get the presidential nomination, I doubt he’ll try to push MJ out of the senate race because that doesn’t match his personality.

?

Cornyn is far more popular than Cruz, if Beto ran against him it would probably end his political career, unless he tried to go back to the House. Cornyn won his last election by over 1.26 million votes.
