https://www.mediaite.com/politics/gillibrand-stands-by-call-for-al-franken-to-resign-after-new-yorker-piece-i-do-not-have-any-regrets/Of course, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was at the forefront of calling for Franken to resign at the time. She tells Mayer she has no regrets, and again made that point tonight in a Mic town hall event.
She said the New Yorker piece mostly focused on digging into one story when there were eight allegations, and added she could have told senators there is no prize for someone who tries to hold accountable a powerful man who is good at his day job, but we should have the courage to do it anyway.

What is so surprising is that she didnt anticipate the grudge Democrats were holding over her role in Frankens exile from the Senate.

And now her doubling down publicly saying she has no regrets just further amplifies how poor her judgment is.

(47,535 posts)All the senators running, except Klobuchar joined Gillibrand. Do they have any regrets?
At least she sticks by her stand. And in a climate that demand that everyone apologize:
Hillary and Biden for voting for the Iraq War
Biden for doing what a representative should do - form ties
and more.
Sometimes I think that we are in a revival meeting:
Repent! Repent!

(1,501 posts)Having the humility to apologize is a hallmark of a good leader. Barack never hesitated to apologize when he felt he was in the wrong, for example. Hillary never apologized for her IWR vote and it hurt her in 2008.

(7,596 posts)How many times does this need to be said? She's attacked because she demanded Franken resign before there was ANY sort of investigation into the allegations. That is the only reason why people have soured on her. Nothing else. She set a shitty precedent where accusations alone can end careers and ruin reputations.
But she keeps lying and claiming that people are lambasting her for supporting sexual assault victims. Pardon my French, but that's fucking bullshit. My respect for her is in the toilet and I'm glad her presidential campaign has gone nowhere.

(15,512 posts)Complete with gloating tweets. From the piece:
After Tweedens story was posted, Alex Jones, the extremist radio host, boasted on his show that Stone had told him, in advance, Get ready. Frankens next. Stone told me that an executive at Fox who was friendly with Tweeden had tipped him off.
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/07/29/the-case-of-al-franken
Mayer also writes that when Franken's wife heard the Tweeden accusation, she immediately thought of threats that Riley and others at FOX had made to take out Al on account of things he'd said and written about them. Well they got him.
Gillibrand needs to read the article and STFU about having "no regrets" taking part in this.
