Gillibrand Stands by Call for Al Franken to Resign After New Yorker Piece: I Do Not Have Any Regrets

https://www.mediaite.com/politics/gillibrand-stands-by-call-for-al-franken-to-resign-after-new-yorker-piece-i-do-not-have-any-regrets/

By now, you’ve likely either read or heard about Jane Mayer‘s New Yorker piece on Senator Al Franken, the allegations against him, and how he —— as Mayer put it —— got “railroaded.” The piece looks closely at the allegation by Leeann Tweeden and reveals that several Democratic senators “have regrets about their own roles in his fall.”

Of course, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was at the forefront of calling for Franken to resign at the time. She tells Mayer she has no regrets, and again made that point tonight in a Mic town hall event.

She said the New Yorker piece mostly focused on digging into one story when there were eight allegations, and added she could have told senators “there is no prize for someone who tries to hold accountable a powerful man who is good at his day job, but we should have the courage to do it anyway.”

How many times does this need to be said? She's attacked because she demanded Franken resign before there was ANY sort of investigation into the allegations. That is the only reason why people have soured on her. Nothing else. She set a shitty precedent where accusations alone can end careers and ruin reputations.

But she keeps lying and claiming that people are lambasting her for supporting sexual assault victims. Pardon my French, but that's fucking bullshit. My respect for her is in the toilet and I'm glad her presidential campaign has gone nowhere.

44. Mayer's piece is chilling. It was a total, flagrant RW hit job, no attempt to hide it
Tue Jul 23, 2019, 03:36 AM
Jul 2019

Complete with gloating tweets. From the piece:

At 1 a.m. on November 16th, Roger Stone, the notorious right-wing operative, announced, on Twitter, “It’s Al Franken’s ‘time in the barrel.’ Franken next in long list of Democrats to be accused of ‘grabby’ behavior.”

After Tweeden’s story was posted, Alex Jones, the extremist radio host, boasted on his show that Stone had told him, in advance, “Get ready. Franken’s next.” Stone told me that an executive at Fox who was friendly with Tweeden had tipped him off.

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/07/29/the-case-of-al-franken

Mayer also writes that when Franken's wife heard the Tweeden accusation, she immediately thought of threats that Riley and others at FOX had made to take out Al on account of things he'd said and written about them. Well they got him.

Gillibrand needs to read the article and STFU about having "no regrets" taking part in this.
