Progressives Support Shoring Up ACA Before Tackling Medicare For All
Im happy to support any provision that strengthens the ACA and plug some of the gaps that were seeing, particularly as its under assault by the president, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told HuffPost on Wednesday. I think its part of a longer-term vision, at least for me, towards guaranteeing ― truly guaranteeing ― health care for all Americans.

(8,144 posts)covered can get a good plan. Biden has strong healthcare, education, and crime answers. And he is
not making promises that cant be kept, which so often politicians do.

And yes, Biden's Plans on Education and Criminal Justice are just as brilliant.

Biden's plan is unsurprisingly popular because the ACA is now a familiar program and its expansion will offer choice. It's also the most pragmatic avenue to expand healthcare access while striving towards the ultimate goal of universal healthcare. Subsequently, even the progressives in Congress are on board with shoring up what we have and making improvements before deep-diving into the Medicare4All waters.
With all hands on deck, we can do this!

MFA is political suicide. The only reason some are pushing it is to wipe out Obama's legacy and replace it with their own.

(3,256 posts)MFA is not the way to go at all -- it will cost us the Whitehouse, the Senate AND the House. There will be 7 conservative judges on the SCOTUS and we'll be doomed for generations.
btw -- Biden's plan is also Beto's plan.

...keeping the health insurance cabal in the loop aren't we keeping the enemy of universal healthcare alive and prosperous?...to do battle with us and universal healthcare at every future opportunity?
...wouldn't the buying and negotiating power of an universal MFA program significantly lower the cost of drugs and healthcare nationwide like no other program would?
...and where's the inspiring 2020 voter excitement generated by just more tinkering around the edges of healthcare?...yawn
" Progressives Support Shoring Up ACA Before Tackling Medicare For All "
...not this Progressive nor most of the Progressives I know...
...we support universal healthcare not more universal profit care...we can put a man on the moon, record every electronic message on the planet but we can't produce a universal healthcare system like every other normal country...
...face it, the 1% doesn't want a universal healthcare program anymore than they want a secure election ballot...
...just too inconvenient for minority rule...

(7,403 posts)It looks like he had a Frank Luntz type of focus group to test what language for reform polls the best.
Obama's Medicaid expansion provision was partially shot down by the Supreme Court so all plans have to consider what could get past the Supreme Court.
Medicare for all looks like it would for sure. It would resemble what other western democracies do and they pay roughly half of what we do for health care, it gets rid of networks and has many other advantages. But it would be the most highly disruptive choice and the people get that and so they push back. So it may be necessary to go incremental in order to have the buy-in.
Indeed, it seems to me that with a buy-in plan we would soon see that the government run plan would be the best value because the profit margin is stripped out and over time more and more people would opt into the government plan so private insurance would dry up. This is what has happened with ACA. Here in Nebraska there is only one health insurance company with plans available and all providers must be in network or there is no coverage - the same as not being insured. So you are constantly having to change doctors and hospitals as the networks change. I've had to drop my dentist of 40 years because of this.
The other candidate need to focus group test their plans too as it seems like Biden's plan isn't that much different. It seems like Medicare for all but with an option to buy private insurance instead which makes it a whole lot less disruptive.

Im just saying, give us working stiffs the choice. And that remaining 80% my employer pays could be wages, help for the poor, and adequate staffing.
