I am very hopeful that we will not have the disruptions at the National convention this cycle if sanders fails to get 300 delegates. I was a delegate to the Philadelphia convention and saw how the process works. One key item is that under the rules, a candidate cannot be put into nomination without 300 delegates. https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/2020-Call-for-Convention-WITH-Attachments-2.26.19.pdf

Nomination of the Democratic Candidate for President: The Permanent Chair shall receive nominations from the floor for the Democratic candidate for the Office of President of the United
States in the following manner:

a. Requests to nominate a presidential candidate shall be in writing and shall have affixed thereto the written approval of the proposed nominee and the name of the individuals who shall be recognized to make the nominating and seconding speeches on behalf of a presidential candidate and shall be delivered to the Convention Secretary at a location as specified by the Secretary no later than 6:00 p.m. of the day preceding the day designated for the commencement of presidential nominations.

b. Each such request must be accompanied by a petition indicating support for the proposed nominee signed by delegates representing not less than 300 or more than 600 delegate votes, not more than 50 of which may come from one (1) delegation. A delegate may not sign more than one (1) nominating petition for president and for vice president. Pledged and automatic delegates may sign the petition.

If sanders is frozen out of enough states due to the 15% rule and remaining non-Biden delegates are split among several candidates, there is a chance that sanders may not reach 300 threshold

I do like him, felt fabulous caucusing for him and winning in the state of Kansas.

I will vote for him if he wins with a big smile on my face but I am not backing him this time. I am mostly figuring out who I do not want right now. Separating the moderates from those I would love to work for.

Sanders drift downward has reached a new low in today's Quinnipiac poll where he is in 4th place with 11%

In 2016 he benefited from a) a whole lot of "anybody but Hillary" sentiment that was fueled by millions of messages from Russian troll farms b) getting a free pass in scrutiny by the media who never bothered to scrutinize what He was actually saying and the costs involved.

Even among the "activist" wing he is sinking. Scroll up and you will see he is about to drop to 5th place in the DU poll which has been very prescient in showing future trends of the party.

As for your point on state vs national polls you make my point in spades. As the ONLY candidate who has run a national campaign he should be out performing on national polls due to name recognition and being the only candidate already having a campaign in place in all 50 states, but the reverse is true.

There is nothing in the polls that is encouraging to the Sanders campaign.

The problem with the insincere interlocutor is that having already established your preferred conclusion you will just keep changing metrics until you find the one that you think proves your case. Not agreeing with the national polling you state

National polls are less compelling than state polls this far out

Lets look at the state with frequent polling that is closest to Senator Sanders home: New Hampshire

We will pick

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/nh/new_hampshire_democratic_presidential_primary-6276.html

the state started the campaign with the widest margin favouring Sanders
the poll that gives Sanders the best numbers

so all of the bias is going for Sanders, not against him

1) The facts are that the state polls that you prefer show an even greater collapse than the national polls do. Using the same pollster UNH (to avoid cherry picking results but providing exactly the same methodology in all of the polls) we see that Sanders has lost more than half of his supporters in NH and has moved from a commanding first place lead to third place (and in the most recent poll from a different NH pollster fallen to 5th place.

Before the campaign cycle started this is what UNH showed Sanders support as

1) Sanders 31
2) Biden 24
3) Warrren 13
4) Harris 1

At the beginning of the cycle in Feb

1) Sanders 26
2) Biden 22
3) Harris 10
4) Warren 7
5) Buttigieg 1

In July Sanders had fallen to 3rd place within the margin of error.

1) Biden 24
2) Warren 19
3) Sanders 19
4) Buttigieg
5) Harris 9

Again this is all from UNH polling which has consistently given Sanders the HIGHEST numbers.

The average for all current polls is pretty close

1) Biden 24
2) Warren 18
3) Sanders 16
4) Harris 13
5) Buttigieg

The most recent poll from St Anselm has Sanders in 5th place

What is really remarkable about Sanders, the guy who wanted to primary President Obama is that in looking at all of the major candidates from all of the major parties no candidate in recent history had less support from the colleagues who actually worked with him. Of the approximately 50 Democratic Senators he received no endorsements until the very end (six weeks after Super Tuesday gave Secretary Clinton an insurmountable lead) when Senator Merkley became the sole Senator to endorse Senator Sanders. Sanders inability to attract Vermont Democratic office holders who had worked with and knew Sen Sanders the best in 2016 confirms what this cycle is proving; the more people know about Sanders (including neighboring NH) the less support he has.

Over the last few months there has been a consistent decline of support for Sanders in both National and State polls and with Senator Warren's strong performance last night, more erosion is coming his way.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Polls all through 2016 and recently show Bernie is the most likeable of all of the candidates. Voters like him which is the only metric that matters.

As for his popularity amongst fellow Senators, who cares? Keep in mind that Barack had only one Democratic Senator endorse him until well into the 2008.

Doesn't the latest Michigan poll which has Sanders in second place? As for national polls, the latest YouGov poll has him sitting pretty next to Joe and Liz.

I agree with this analysis https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/07/31/dem-debate-gop-strategists-roundup-227491?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Joe Biden won this debate. The candidates on stage really went after each other tonight and in ways that highlighted how extreme some of their views are. The moderates on stage, who have no chance of winning, spent their time highlighting how far left and unelectable Warren and Sanders are. They were doing Biden’s work for him and he didn’t even get his hands dirty.
