Im left of Bullock and doubt he can win the nomination. However, from a strategic point of view, he would win all the states Clinton won and probably appeal to voters in Midwest AND rust belt more than most on stage tonight. I think Biden would too impressed with Steve tonight. My conservative family and friends in Montana love him

(31,261 posts)Is that if democrats don't excite and turn out African Americans, they won't win. Hillary did not get good turnout from that group in key states.
I believe that a democratic ticket with two White men, or a White woman and a White man is an almost sure loser if AA are not over the top over that ticket. That is why I see Harris, Castro or Booker as number twos for Biden or Warren (I believe one of the last two will be the party nominee).
I really hate writing stuff like that, I long hoped that we were past such an outcome, but with Trump telegraphing that he will rip at racial divisions, democrats will need the AA vote to be strong in states like Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and maybe North Carolina.

(1,713 posts)I agree we need a diverse ticket. That being said I can't imagine a scenario where Trump alone don't motivate minority demographics to run to the polls. I want a diverse ticket but with such a racist and xenophobic President doing real harm to communities of color- they will fight back in big numbers

(31,261 posts)But the choice between Hillary and Trump was a clear choice between good and evil and AA did not show up in adequate numbers in states like Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan. In Michigan, many Muslims voted for Trump because of a longtime issue they had with Hillary's support of Israel, and likely won that state for Trump, look how that turned out for them.
