(115,735 posts)Klobuchar, Castro and Gabbard better get to an animal shelter. Not that I'd vote for Gabbard anyhow.

(102,292 posts)Buttigieg, Gillibrand, O'Rourke, Hickenlooper, Booker, Inslee (lost his dog, has "granddogs" ) have dogs.
Kamala Harris is a strong supporter of animal protection bills and frequently tweets dog related posts, but doesn't currently own a dog;
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders did not have a dog during the last presidential race, and doesnt seem to have gotten one since. Neither Amy Klobuchar, the Minnesota Senator, nor Julian Castro, the former Housing Secretary, nor Tulsi Gabbard, the Hawaii Congresswoman, have mentioned owning dogs during the early days of the race. Howard Schultz mentions his familys love of dogs in his bio, but hasnt during his exploratory presidential bid, while Mike Bloomberg doesnt really seem to care for them at all.

(115,735 posts)There might be reasonable practical reasons for not keeping a pet during a particular period of time, and some people have allergies, though even that doesn't always preclude pets. Bill and Hillary had a cat, Socks, even though Bill is allergic to them. The Obama girls have allergies but they got a dog of a breed that's somewhat hypo-allergenic. Not liking animals strongly suggests a person is, indeed, a d-bag. The reverse isn't necessarily true, of course; Mike Pence has pets. Trump thought it was low-class for the Pences to bring their pets with them to Washington.

(5,938 posts)It's not some litmus test of ones humanity if you don't like cats or dogs. Plenty of evil people love their dogs.

(115,735 posts)Some bad people do like dogs (not because these are kind, loving people, but more likely because dogs are obedient), but good, kind people do not dislike dogs or other animals. A person who dislikes animals is not at heart a nice person.

(28,341 posts)I've only known a few, but each of them were cold, fearful, uptight, untrusting and untrustable.
Having a dog does not necessarily indicate an estimable character, but disliking animals in general is a data-driven indicator of certain personality traits.

(5,938 posts)that's a tad extreme. We're talking about does not having a dog mean anything about the person. The answer is no.

(4,482 posts)Bizarre fact: Hitler yes Hitler was a lover of dogs. It is widely known that he had an adored German shepherd named Blondi. According to a tome penned by Hitler's final secretary, he spoke at great lengths about his pup, like most doting dog owners you know. Needless to say, the love between demagogue and furry creature loomed large.
Meanwhile in 2016, president elect Donald Trump is considering getting a golden doodle named Patton. Do with that information what you will.
If that doesn't make much sense to you, you're not alone. But the truth is that even horrible people can love fluffy things. In fact, there are more than a few political leaders, dictators, and men of ill repute who adore animals. There have been dictators who've caressed their horses and much-hated imperialists who've cuddled little lion cubs. Perhaps dogs, cats, lions, horses are the great equalizers? Or maybe those in great power grow lonely and eventually seek out furry companions because dogs don't care about communism. (Or do they? It's a thought worth pondering.)
Ahead, find the tyrants who took on a pet consider it an exercise in cognitive dissonance.
