Okay... I'm open to it. Why Beto? Someone sell me on his agenda/message.

Seriously interested in why people support him, I don’t know enough about him and need to learn more.

And yes, I will also use The Google for this.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I already know that.

That said, I think he would probably be pretty amazing at selling big deals to the American people. I can see him going over legislation from Pelosi(or whoever the speaker is) and then leading a full assault to get it passed. He has shown a history of respect to the establishment. I feel he would put people far more capable than himself in important positions and listen to them closely before making decisions.

I’m not the biggest Beto person but I could easily support him in the general. He has some really good qualities and goes just one step too far in the battle of confidence v arrogance. I actually kind of like that with him whereas with others, not so much.

if he could be the doorway through which Texas turns blue (and it has been getting closer and closer), the GOP will likely never hold the white house again in our lifetimes. They have no path to victory without Texas.

I know TX has been getting closer to blue but what’s different in 2020?

Is turnout enough to get him past the finish line? Does he drive turnout?

It’s a wait and see on some levels.

they did in 2018, but are still underperforming compared to California. If they showed up at the same rate as CA, Texas would be a purple state.

Nobody should underestimate that. Without a split close to our 2016 number, we cannot win in 2020. Beto speaks Spanish and can cut commercials in Spanish plus occasionally speak from the stump in Spanish. He instantly gives us greater hope in Florida via that ability alone.

Texas is not ready to turn blue, not with 43-44% self-identified conservatives. I think Beto would give Trump a good battle but probably lose by similar to his margin against Cruz.

In normal terrain we can't expect to win Texas until that conservative number drops to 37 or 38% of the electorate. 2028 is ambitious along those lines. More likely 2032.

He has a tremendous collection of advantages not shared in their totality by the other candidates, and our kids need us to make SURE we are going to defeat Trump.

Beto's greatest asset is electability. You don't waste a rare talent at vice president or by asking him to wait 4 years. That is the conventional wisdom buffoon approach. The mega buffoon approach is to recommend he run against Cornyn.

It's just too bad we can't see a breakdown of how our other candidates would have fared against Cruz last year. Life doesn't provide that. But the numbers would be startling, especially to those who somehow condemn Beto for losing to Ted Cruz.

He’s charismatic, young, inspirational, seems smart and resembles Bobby Kennedy.

I don’t know that he has the experience or qualifications to actually do the job but you can’t discount the power of popularity. He seems to have the potential to be an Obamalike figure, though lacking Obama’s overall polish. And there’s also little doubt he’d be infinitely better than the shitshow going on now.

VP would be a better spot for him at this point in my opinion but sometimes the moment takes you.

I suppose we’ll see more about his actual policy positions in the coming months. As it is, outside of his immigration stance, he’s pretty much a blank slate to most people.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
