Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forummy take on the debate (not that it matters much)
1. Pete Buttigieg was the most well-spoken and made the most sense. I mean, this guy is gooood.
2. Warren had less time than expected. Loved her "racism is domestic terrorism' line. But she seem flustered at times, gave angry glares and shuffled her notes looking for how to respond to certain lines of questioning. She didn't bring her A-Game but her B-game was good enough for second place tonight.
3. Sanders was shut out by the moderates on stage who knew exactly what he was going to say and were ready to counter it. Gee, wonder why? Could it be because he says the same things every time we see him? PS: The 'damn bill' you wrote, on the outside chance you're elected, won't be the bill that goes before congress - you won't write that one.
NOTE: Acting angry, waving your arms, rolling your eyes, and making promises that have no chance of going anywhere only impresses the further left of the party who are thoroughly convinced you won the night.
4. SURPRISE! Williamson... good on reparations. Losing issue. She had more time and made better points than I or most expected. Her debate prep obviously included essential oils.
5. Beto is like a standout college football player getting a rude awakening in the pros. Welcome to the NFL, muthafucka! Now scrape yourself off the turf and get back into the game.
6. The moderate wing. None have a chance to win but were the perfect foils for Warren and Sanders, both of whom had issues at times defending their positions and often appeared angry they were even being challenged.
7. Klobuchar - smart but forgettable. She deserves more, but won't get it.

(7,142 posts)Sanders and Warren, ask yourself why?
I will be curious to see if the debate questions tonight are rigged to bring down Biden and Warren.
Here's another question, how many of our present 20 candidates are to the left of Teddy Roosevelt? My how far our country has shifted to the right that Bernie and Warren are called radicals but it's normal for Republicans to give 1.5 trillion dollars to the rich. Bernie should have been angry, so should all of them.

(30,816 posts)We need to have an idea about how the far left is going to fare under GOP questioning as well.
The idea is to win in the general. If the left wing can't provide compelling support for its ideas, we will have to go slightly more moderate.

Absolutely right!
Promises are cheap and easy when you do not have a plan for as to how they will ever become law because the truth is that none of them will become law anytime soon.
But then too many Democrats have the notion that anybody they throw at Trump can beat him so it doesn't matter how far left the nominee is.
Of course if a far left candidate gets nominated and loses to Trump, none of them will ever admit that their views contributed to that defeat.
