That's becoming the progressive fall-back position. Silly.

How did you become fluent in that?
Right and I basically said, "except for when they are actually equalling republican talking points." That isn't a controversial thing, but somehow you made it as much. Incredible.

(11,088 posts)Honestly, all I said was that some arguments against m4a do spawn from republican talking points. Neither you nor I have specified if there are specific arguments at hand to prove either point. Fact is I agree with you, and so far you haven't shown much for me to presume you disagree with much of what I have said either.

(21,786 posts)The salient question here is "will taxes go up by less than the current average cost of paying for health insurance for the average American?" (the answer, based on every single other developed country that has universal healthcare, is 'yes').

Progressives Support Shoring Up ACA Before Tackling Medicare For All
Im happy to support any provision that strengthens the ACA and plug some of the gaps that were seeing, particularly as its under assault by the president, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told HuffPost on Wednesday. I think its part of a longer-term vision, at least for me, towards guaranteeing ― truly guaranteeing ― health care for all Americans.

(11,949 posts)My employer pay for health insurance for well over 50K workers. At over 5k per worker. Workers, who despite what many here always claim actually like their healthcare. Because the ACA instituted guaranteed coverage and out of pocket cost maximums.
So my employer provides coverage worth over $250,000,000 of coverage to their employees. Its actually a lot more because we have more people all over the country.
Multiply that be the entire 50-60 million Americans who get their healthcare from their employer, and who a generally happy with it. Who makes up that cost? Even with the always assumed but never proven savings?
When someone actually answers that we can have a serious conversation.
And logistics aside. You think many of the employees of my company, or any company are going to vote for someone telling they are taking that away for something Better! Trust us! Not hardly. We push Medicare for all we get more republican victories.
Employees who get medical insurance know it got better after the ACA. Thats why it is now popular. Strengthening it is the winning message. Its what won in 2018.
And why it will win in 2020.

(7,886 posts)But when you start using those points expect to be called out on them.
And to answer the question that is going to be asked, the whole "who will pay for it" is a right wing talking point. Rand Paul used it just a couple days ago to try and block the 9-11 bill.

(3,131 posts)And there is not a good answer. I see that as a bigger problem than your point which I dont dispute.
We have to stop acting like health cate is a problem that can be completely solved in a single election cycle. It is going to take multiple steps.
If we cant anticipate and answer the obvious but reliable you cant keep your plan/doctor attack, we are sunk.
Were talking about covering everyone and also cutting the huge waste out of the system. To the tune of a trillion dollars a year. We will be incredibly successful if we do that in a decade.
It will be as hard as getting to the moon. If we tried that in one step we never would have got there.
Its a frustrating and stupid situation because other countries do it for so much less but that doesnt make it easier for us. Even people screwed by the current system will be hard to convince.
You know what the biggest problem with the ACA was? We lost control of congress and couldn't do anything to improve it for the past 10 years. We couldnt even stop going backwards.
