(7,638 posts)You would announce what your not aligned with about Beto. I can throw a rotten tomato into a parade but I would probably have a reason. To do it with no reason is just throwing rotten tomatoes. Are you a tomato thrower without a cause?
I see Beto as the candidate I can shape, not the candidate I get stuck with and their unwavering set in stone policies. If I wanted that I would just stick with the dictator we have.

(16,396 posts)Recently bragged theyve picked someone other than the eventual nominee, usually a distant 4-6th place finisher, if that, in almost every Democratic presidential primary for decades.
Apparently even Obama didnt impress the poster enough to vote for him in 2008 in that primary.
Bottom line: I wouldnt spend much energy on the back and forth.

(401 posts)seem to be panicking like Bernie Sanders supporters ... especially considering that Beto poses no threat to Mr. Yang but will destroy Bernie Sanders' hopes and dreams ... grinding them into finely pulverized saw dust and then lighting it on fire.
Beto is going to vacuum the millennials leaving only grumpy, disgruntled, angry, old men as Bernie supporters coddling their pitchforks and torches in frustration.

(7,638 posts)That was an obvious malignment and wasn't necessary. Now, unfortunately I have to consider you to be a a person that barges into a little party and acts like an ass. No one knows who you are, they just wish you would find another party to attend. I don't hate you or anything, I just feel better when you're not around.

I woke up to see an e-mail from Beto. I got to talk to Beto at the National Convention just briefly. In early 2017, Beto spoke to a small group at a tavern in my county. My son and I got to see Beto up close and he is amazing. I made a couple of rallies and heard him at the state convention. Beto is perhaps the best retail politician that I have seen since President Obama.
I like Beto a great deal and Beto could flip Texas which is a goal that I have been working towards for a very long time. I am still torn between Beto, Biden and Harris but my main goal is anyone but sanders.

(458 posts)However, a new analysis of congressional votes from the non-profit news organisation Capital & Main shows that even as ORourke represented one of the most solidly Democratic congressional districts in the United States, he has frequently voted against the majority of House Democrats in support of Republican bills and Trump administration priorities.
Capital & Main reviewed the 167 votes ORourke has cast in the House in opposition to the majority of his own party during his six-year tenure in Congress. Many of those votes were not progressive dissents alongside other left-leaning lawmakers, but instead votes to help pass Republican-sponsored legislation.
Sign up for the new US morning briefing
ORourke has voted for GOP bills that his fellow Democratic lawmakers said reinforced Republicans anti-tax ideology, chipped away at the Affordable Care Act (ACA), weakened Wall Street regulations, boosted the fossil fuel industry and bolstered Donald Trumps immigration policy.

(37,648 posts)She did so....because she was wrong on her facts. Now THAT'S something to worry about.
But I'll read up on his voting record.
A candidate is more than just a voting record. This is why representatives & Senators are rarely elected President; it's easy to attack their voting records. Sometimes people vote for or against a bill for specific reasons that are not the main thrust of the bill, or because it's best for their constituents.
Representatives are in Congress to represent the interests of their district and state. Not the U.S. as a whole.
What matters most is that he supports most of the Democratic Party Platform. That is, that he's a real Democrat. Democrats can have differing opinions on details, but they support the main points, which is why they are Democrats.

(67,782 posts)Except for Joe Cunningham of South Carolina, she has voted against the Democratic majoritymore than any other Democratic member of Congress this session. All votes can be found here:

Progressive Punch has her rated at 215 of the 234 Democrats in the House, even behind Henry Cuellar (Justice Democrats' first announced "target" next year):

https://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/78533/beto-orourke/?p=1#.XIpLyyhKjIUhttps://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/house/
Offhand, I saw that he voted to protect wolves from being removed from endangered list, protected pro-choice, pro-environment. The couple of things I checked on that sound like a bill to "protect" the ACA, that he voted against, actually wanted to repeal a board requirement that they conduct reviews in public so that they could make decisions in private, and allowed the board to reach their hands into Medicare and actually change Medicare spending. His vote sounds appropriate.
The article also makes a deal out of him having been a member of the New Democrat Coalition. I looked at that and immediately saw that Adam Schiff is a member of that group. https://newdemocratcoalition-himes.house.gov/members
I noticed that NARAL Pro-Choice, Planned Parenthood, Alliance for Retired Americans, the Sierra Club, and a group called Demand Universal Health Care have endorsed him. But I didn't search long for that. https://votesmart.org/interest-groups#.XIpRSChKjIX
Looks pretty good to me, so far. Hits my big issues: protection of Medicare & Social Security, environment, wildlife, pro-choice, health care.
One negative thing I ran across was that when Rep Tim Ryan was going to challenge Pelosi for Speaker, O'Rourke backed Tim Ryan. O'Rourke said he believed in term limits, and it was time for a change. I don't like that.
