Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumDo you suppose that the reason there is a collection of so many multiple candidates for the
democratic nomination is planned and strategic?
IOW, do you think this is coordinated in order to confound Republican donors from trying to position THEIR choice of the eventual democratic candidate? For example, instead of a dozen Democrats, there were three (Bernie, Beto, and Booker). Republicans believe Booker would be the weakest candidate to run against their guy and they donate to his campaign, run media, etc. to get him to win the nomination.
Versus they don't have enough money at this time to start donating to push someone to the top. Therefore, they have to likely wait until 2020 to try to manipulate democratic presidential candidates.
And the Democrats are rolling Republicans with a multiple target strategy.
Or do you believe this is Democrats being Democrats?

(14,565 posts)Ousting an incumbent is an incredibly difficult task. But somehow it is not acknowledged that way. There is no chance a presidential field in this type of scenario should hold massive numbers compared to an open race, which is much easier. Many candidates essentially throw away their one opportunity.
As much as I despise Donald Trump I give him credit for waiting for the ideal situational environment. He would have been thumped in 2008 or 2012, even if me managed the nomination. But in 2012 he finally had the positive national tilt of the other party holding the White House for 8 years, and the nominee of that party a known figure for 25 years with polarizing traits and therefore low upside.
Rick Scott similarly in Florida ran in the only cycle he had any chance at all. He debuted in 2010 backed by a tailwind of GOP unrest during Obama's first midterm. Scott barely won that race against Alex Sink. In a balanced national climate he loses badly and is probably never heard from again.
