Thu Mar 14, 2019, 08:47 AM

None of this is true.

First of all HR 15 - Raise the Wage Act. Beto was a frickin co-sponsor of this bill. Here is the link to the ACTUAL bill, where you can find his name listed under co-sponsors. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/15

Secondly, HR 676 only allowed for Medicare reimbursements to non-for-profit organizations and NOT for-profit (e.g. hospitals, private practices). That is why he didn't support it. He said he is considering sponsoring an amendment to the resolution to allow reimbursements to for-profits or creating an entirely new bill.

He has been vocal on his position on Healthcare, which you can see here:
https://egbertowillies.com/2018/02/11/beto-orourke-d-medicare-for-all/

Here we go again. I hope we don't see a repeat of 2016, but it looks like this Summer For Progress group is starting this right out of the gate.

Frankly I feel both are wasted as VP, both worthy of the top spot, and I personally think Kamala has star power/charisma on the level of Beto. These are two of my favorite candidates in years, so I'm willing to wait and see how the primaries shake out, but we're lucky to have Dems of this caliber competing.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

60. People should engage when they make an OP
Thu Mar 14, 2019, 02:53 PM
Mar 2019

Your post got me to thinking. I didn’t realize the OP only posted this and hasn’t participated in their own thread.

Whenever someone makes a post in this forum, I have an expectation that they will engage with others on that post. Breaking news is a little different. People don’t necessarily need to Engage about a breaking news story if they’re just reporting that it happened.

Clearly, this post was intended to make people question Beto’s support of a universal system of healthcare. When in reality, he has spoken forcefully in favor of universal healthcare. I believe I read elsewhere, though my memory may not be right, of Beto saying he would use the affordable care act as the platform on which to build. I support that approach. People underestimate how broad and yes, wonderful, Obamacare is. The 10 essential health care benefits it defines make for comprehensive coverage. A public option is the missing link.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Thu Mar 14, 2019, 04:41 PM
Mar 2019

Can you show me where she is backing away from Medicare for All? You link doesn't back up your claim.

Then again, with an op like this one......

Part of Warren's reply at the link zero provided.

So, let’s start with the battle we’re having right now and talk about the things we need to be doing, because I don’t want to lose sight of this. It’s good to talk about our overall goal, and here’s our overall goal. This is what distinguishes Democrats from Republicans. Democrats believe health care is a basic human right. And we fight for basic human rights. Our obligation is to make sure that everybody gets coverage at the lowest possible cost to all of us. So what does that mean? Right now, it means fighting the Republicans who are trying to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. We’ve got this lawsuit going on down in Texas where the Republicans are trying to do what they couldn’t do with the vote, and that is trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act, to make it OK to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, to cut off access to health care for millions of Americans. So job number one is to defend the affordable care act.

Job number two is to make changes where we need to make them right now. Changes to hold insurance companies accountable when they’re trying to cheat people, when they’re trying to scam people. Changes right now, and what’s happening with drugs, prescription drugs. We need to lower the cost of prescription drugs. One in four Americans say they can’t take drugs that are prescribed to them because they can’t afford to pay for them. I have, for example here, a proposal for generic drugs, which are about 90 percent of prescriptions that people fill, to bring those costs down to just a nominal cost.

And the third, how do we get universal coverage. Medicare for all. Lots of paths for how to do that. But we know where we are aiming. And that is, every American has health care at a price they can afford. And that the overall costs in the system are held as low as possible.

So right now, there are multiple bills on the floor in the United States Senate. I’ve signed onto Medicare for All. I’ve signed on to another one that gives an option for buying in to Medicaid. There are different ways we can get there. But the key has to be always keep the center of the bullseye in mind. And that is affordable health care for every American.

I see no support for the military boondoggle there. Nice deflection.
