Nate Silver: Beto is going to generate a lot of Takes and then there will be a backlash to the Takes and then a backlash to the backlash and a backlash to the backlash to the backlash and all of that is only going to generate even more Takes.
That is potentially quite a helpful dynamic if youre one of 15-20 candidates running for the nomination and trying to stand out in a crowded field.

(5,229 posts)today in his announcement video. Underimpressed! Spoke of all kinds of Democratic issues without any solutions or suggestions while the little woman looked at him adoringly, a la Nancy Reagan. Looked staged and unbelievable. Try harder Beto.

(16,887 posts)I am listening to a man who is pro-choice, believes climate change is the fundamental biggest challenge of humanity that we need to address, wants to have living wages and healthcare....
He is amazing....I am a Kamala Harris fan and I just am listening to him now and am blown away....
Try harder? If this guy tries harder....he will be President....

(5,229 posts)was to think how Nancy would look at Ronnie so adoringly. It seemed so contrived and we Democrats bashed it all the time. AND it did make her appear less her own person and just an appendage of her husband. We early feminists wanted more for ourselves. So perhaps this first introduction reaction is based on my history of feminism. Would have been better if she moved over a bit and looked at the camera once in a while. I'm sure she is a strong and independent woman, but the producers of the video portrayed her as clingy, I'm afraid. She needs to show us. Just a very early opinion and some constructive criticism. Did Michelle ever do this with Obama? Not that I noticed.

(1,896 posts)Honestly, I have my doubts about him being a heck of a President at this point, but he's a heck of a candidate. I'd love to see him as VP for somebody, and I'm quietly hoping he's really on the Joe Walsh "running for Vice-President" train.

I woke up to see an e-mail from Beto. I got to talk to Beto at the National Convention just briefly. In early 2017, Beto spoke to a small group at a tavern in my county. My son and I got to see Beto up close and he is amazing. I made a couple of rallies and heard him at the state convention. Beto is perhaps the best retail politician that I have seen since President Obama.
I like Beto a great deal and Beto could flip Texas which is a goal that I have been working towards for a very long time. I am still torn between Beto, Biden and Harris but my main goal is anyone but sanders.

(14,565 posts)Beto is like a tennis player who can do more with one shot than the dullard across the net who desperately tries to gain 6 inches of advantage with each succeeding exchange.
The problem with the backlash types is they somehow didn't believe Beto would quickly jump to the top tier. That's why they are caught off guard and defensive and looking for anything to nitpick. Somehow they assumed Beto would be a nice basically insignificant entry, maybe a vice presidential possibility at best. Let's just say I don't want that type handicapping anything for me.
