The Real Reason Beto O'Rourke Is Running

The Real Reason Beto O’Rourke Is Running

"SNIP....

Jonathan Chait: “O’Rourke’s actual reason for running is perfectly clear: He is a highly charismatic and inspirational… He is saying he has natural gifts as a political communicator, and believes he should put them to use for the purpose of beating Donald Trump and otherwise making the world a better place.”

“This is a good reason to run for the presidency! Politics is a team sport, and enacting political change requires effort from a wide array of actors: policy advisers, legislators, bureaucrats, and activists. The president of the United States is only one of those actors, albeit the most important by far, and his or her most important role is serving as a messenger for the party. Being an effective, telegenic communicator is a crucial job qualification and a vital asset.”

“O’Rourke’s argument is that he’s sufficiently well-versed in policy to make good decisions — which, again, may or may not be true, but which he’ll have the chance to demonstrate — and that his skills as a communicator set him apart.”

......SNIP"

Is he is also charismatic but definitely can talk about policy. Inslee is my first choice though because of climate change. I think he has some charisma too, but not as much as O'Rourke or Buttigieg.

fan of Buttigieg, but will give them all a look, naturally. And Inslee is concentrating on the most important issue, short of beating dt, of our time.

That said - I really like the guy.

Are charismatic and communicate very well. I think of all of them, Harris is the best at being a "natural" when it comes to politics and running for president. If any one is "gifted" it is her. She is always connecting with people, she seems totally comfortable around the crowds of voters, and people really like here. Others do as well also, but she seems to be better at connecting.

Just my opinion.

his national claim to fame is losing an election.

I like what he says, and I'll obviously vote for him if he's the nominee, but I'd rather have someone with a stronger national track record.

No thanks.

I don't care how 'likeable' he is, or 'electable' he may be. Let's not get fossil-fooled again.

We should be planting a million trees across the Permian Basin, not drilling it for ever more dinosaur puree.
