Democrat Pete Buttigieg, who hopes to become the first openly gay president in American history, was targeted on Twitter this week by Franklin Graham in comments that called being gay a "sin, something to be repentant of, not something to be flaunted, praised or politicized."
Graham, the son of legendary preacher Billy Graham, is known as an evangelist, social conservative activist and supporter of President Donald Trump. Buttigieg the mayor of South Bend, Indiana is a practicing Christian who says there is no reason his sexuality and faith have to be mutually exclusive.
Graham's comments came in response to a CNN report about Buttigieg remarking that "God doesn't have a political party."
"But God does have commandments, laws & standards," Graham tweeted.

Good response from a columnist found below the last time Graham spouted this BS:

I try to live by biblical teachings but also know that scripture is a breathing document to be met with dialogue and questioning. It was never supposed to be anything other than that. Literalism and fundamentalism obscure the truth, promoting perversion of what was intended, and empowering people such as Franklin Graham to cause untold agony. The quintessence of the Gospels is love and forgiveness. I will try to love and forgive you sir thats not easy but, as a Christian, I have no choice.

He is painting targets on people in this dangerous environment. Taxpayers cannot subsidize this spreading of hate and division under any supposedly all inclusive cause.
Enough is enough. The separations clause isn't separating church and state, so pay your taxes and you can get involved in politics!
Otherwise STFU!

(2,227 posts)Turdface being the absolute destruction of:
the republican party
the evangelical movement (preferably the legitimacy of the entire christian cult)
and the long simmering racism that has been lurking just below the surface of America, since its existence.
It may just happen.
Of course, if we aren't the ones counting the votes, we may get:
turdface horror, episode 2
christian sharia law
and a permanent culture war
in other words, the absolute failure of the American experiment.
Not much at stake, really....
The planet is going to kill us, either way.... as it should.
