Beto O'Rourke's New Approach to 2020: 'Taking the Fight to Donald Trump'

New York Times

Beto O’Rourke plans to present himself to the country as a changed candidate on Thursday, with his presidential campaign recast as a moral crusade against President Trump in the aftermath of a mass shooting in El Paso, his hometown.

Mr. O’Rourke, who represented the city in Congress until the start of this year, said he would abandon the relatively traditional approach he has so far taken — with limited success — and largely detach his travel from a primary calendar that tethers most candidates to a handful of early-voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire.

Instead, Mr. O’Rourke said he would now plan his political activities around confronting Mr. Trump in direct and personal terms, and highlighting what Mr. O’Rourke views as the injustices of Mr. Trump’s administration. He intends to seek out immigrant-rich towns to campaign in, and to make gun control a central issue.

Mr. O’Rourke outlined his new approach to the campaign in a speech on Thursday morning. He planned to follow the speech with a trip on Friday to Mississippi, where federal authorities recently detained hundreds of undocumented immigrants in raids targeting workers in the poultry industry.

Whether he is your preferred candidate or not, he is doing an amazing job of attacking Trump and getting the media to start covering Trump as a racist.

Present the issues as they go on the offensive against Trump and the GOP.

Granted, I've already been biased towards Beto, but this is what I've been screaming for some time for ANY of our candidates to engage. Go after Trump, Go after his policies, go after his lies.

I especially remembered it after the 2nd round of Debates when I'd commented:

The only thing that really bugged me about the debates last night:

Healthcare.. healthcare.. healthcare...

Would so change my support if just one candidate would have just stepped forward and admit that it doesn’t mean a damn thing what ANY of their positions on this (or most of the few other topics covered) is, and say “give me a senate and a house that passes any legislation that improves the healthcare system and makes it affordable to all, and I’ll sign the damn thing.. no matter how it’s framed.”

What’s going to be done about Trump. Crickets.
What’s going to do to repair our image abroad. A couple of very minor mentions in passing.
What’s going to be done to repair the damage to judiciary appointments. Crickets.
What’s going to be done to repair the damage done in our agencies by Cheetolini’s cronies.. Crickets.

THAT’s what I’d so much more like to have heard.

Let’s be honest.. any f’n one of them will sign ANY legislation put on their desk that enhances healthcare that is passed by a Democratic Party congress.. Don’t doubt that Biden would sign a medicare for all.. don’t doubt that Kamala would sign an enhanced ACA.. It doesn’t f’n matter!! The Senate. The House.. They will decide what program goes forward if WE get them empowered to do so. FFS it feels so much like snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory to me going at it this way.
