Yahoo reports on Times article:

Obama is concerned that Biden is relying on advisers who are "too old and out of touch with the current political climate," according to The Times, and has urged the former vice president to hire younger aides.

The report also said Obama asked some of Biden's top advisers to ensure the former vice president doesn't "damage his legacy" or "embarrass himself" during the campaign.

For his bad judgement and sexual misconduct with female journalists and thrown to the street by the NYT. This is fact

IMHO I cannot image President Obama saying or send someone, anyone to tell mr. Biden that we are concerned that you might “sully” my legacy. Please, think about that for a moment. A disgraced NYT writer says that and it’s gospel??

I suspect that “stand up to them” percentage would be a lot smaller if the Biden alternative weren’t presented AS an alternative. Democracy requires standing up for your own goals and beliefs as you work toward compromise with those who have their own.

I’m sure some of that 39% fully understand and agree.

Whether or not they really mean it, it's a good idea not to alienate them (independents, especially) by summarily dismissing the idea.

We can't win with Democrats alone. There aren't enough of us. Appealing to moderates is smart strategy.

NH and SC have open primaries so it makes sense to step back from the intense partisanship particularly since Biden is running on the the theme of unity. And at the end of the day he is running to be president of the US, not just the Democratic electorate.

Democrats and Democratic leaners say 70 - 27 percent that age is not an important factor in their vote. Looking at other possible factors, these voters say:
72 - 21 percent that political ideology is an important factor;
67 - 23 percent that bipartisanship is an important factor;
71 - 24 percent that standing up to Republicans is important;
76 - 20 percent that electability is important;
87 - 10 percent that sharing their views is important;
84 - 13 percent, including 75 - 25 percent among black voters, that race is not an important factor;
84 - 12 percent, including 83 - 14 percent among women, that gender is not important.
