(52,164 posts)just like everyone else will. I understand not wanting to do so continuously but those reports are required.

(25,472 posts)I think the obsessive focus on first-day fundraising is a bit misguided, personally, (it's a long, long campaign) but it's pretty much expected at this point.

(12,344 posts)Seems to be a ritual now that candidates release their first 24 or 48 hour hauls, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Some use it to build a buzz, but O'Rourke didn't need that.

(31,261 posts)I think the 24 hour, 48 hour and 72 hour donation thing is nonsense. I care more about him releasing required reports, which he has never had a problem doing.

(94,624 posts)If is fundraising isnt commensurate with TX-SEN, the reasonable question will be: by is he better then a dozen other candidates already in the race?

(16,403 posts)Since Beto raised 6 times the money Hickenlooper raised he is 6 times more popular than Hickenlooper. I like your logic because it reflects real world reality. Thanks for that.

(4,962 posts)really wanted him to beat Cruz.
I havent donated to his Presidential campaign because he danced around his Medicare For All question and gave the phrase I hate access to quality healthcare and thats a no deal for me.
So far I am donating to 3 candidates and Beto isnt one Im interested in. I wonder if his great fundraising results gave him a false sense of his support in a crowded Presidential race with lots of choices.

(4,962 posts)is chosen, that it who I will vote for in the election. No matter who wins.
The primary is my way of participating in democracy and I will vote for the candidate I want to be President. I have 3 so far on my list and I will see how primaries go before mine which isnt until much later. I will not support a candidate that the media pundits, who have been wrong in just about everything, tell me who can beat Trump. I have more faith in my own opinion.
Beto is far down on my list. Quite a few men and women ahead of him.

(4,962 posts)fundraising totals as a sign of their initial support.
Im assuming you are talking about Sanders in 2016 since many candidates havent put out their taxes for the 2020 race. I wish Sanders would. I dont see how he cannot as the field narrows and as others do.
But its really nothing to do with this. Just because you dont like Sanders, he doesnt need to be discussed in every thread.

(31,261 posts)The exceptions are Bernie, I think Castro and Harris. The recent entries like Hockenloooper, Inslee and Beto need slack since they have been in only a couple weeks at the most.

Seriously, just understanding this is useful to ignoring the noise. It is for me. I am 100% undecided at this point and have plenty of time to learn about and observe the candidates. There are actually quite a few that I feel very good about.

(3,259 posts)He is going to look really good and get a days publicity out of it when we get to see the FEC filings or when it leaks. I dont see it looking all that bad unless compared to Sanders, but he has been campaigning for President personally and through multiple groups acting on his behalf for four years.

(108,980 posts)and actually had to return money that he was given in excess of the FEC limits. Hopefully his system is set up now not to allow that to happen. (It can be set up so excessive donations aren't accepted and don't have to be returned months later.)

(19,240 posts)The MSM loves the story "Candidate collects $$$$ within first 24 hours of announcing run." However, this story paints politics as a filed of battle in which money is the weapon. I suspect that Beto has already collected a lot. And I suspect that he has enough sense not to get caught up in a dick slapping contest in which the candidates boast "I got this much money!" "So what. I got THIS much money!"

(12,448 posts)Why isn't Beto releasing his fundraising numbers? WHY??? WHAT IS HE HIDING?
Honestly, a candidate is under no obligation to release those numbers immediately, certainly not on the first day. The fact that another candidate did so is completely irrelevant.
