Williamson Suggests 'Visualizing' Hurricane Retreat

Williamson Suggests ‘Visualizing’ Hurricane Retreat

"SNIP.....

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson offered an unorthodox suggestion for dealing with Hurricane Dorian: using “the power of the mind” to will the storm elsewhere, the Washington Post reports.

In a now-deleted tweet, Williamson, “suggested that visualizing the storm’s retreat could be an effective way to change its course.”

who entertain the science fields in which they are very well-educated to explore how "sending vibes" may actually work to set both a physical and emotional difference for the good of and for the inhabitants on this planet. I have no personal knowledge of these people but they include physicians, engineers, physicists, astronomers, meteorologists, oceanographers, and psychologists, and educators. I have a curious mind too, and so I do explore their hypotheses because I've just grown annoyed at the tired phrase, "thoughts and prayers." I've determined those that say it, don't mean it and do not wish to exhibit the vulnerability to connect with others in pain.

I came across a site on-line that offers up to the OP and other members of DU some research and scientific experiments toward having an impact on any Earthly challenge by just using our minds. Ms. Williamson suggested visualization to change the path of a hurricane. Other scientists and motivational writers and speakers have suggested that having group mindfulness can influence various other forms of constructive energy in the mind and in the physical world around us. The intolerant just laugh at what they perceive as Ms. Williamson's "flower child's" passion without realizing that passion energizes in form and function and that with energy (and money, LOL), people can choose how to best meet this huge political challenge every four years. Be kind; make wise choices.

Having a good vision and intention of where you want to be makes it easier to identify, focus, and do the things you need to do to get there. There's a lot to the "Law of Attraction" thing for those who practice it.
When it comes to changing hurricanes and such, not so much.

Post any peer-reviewed, independent research from a credentialed quantum physicist in a respected physics journal backing up your claim. In order for it to be acceptable, it has to meet that criteria. There isn't any of course.

Everyone has a right to their own beliefs, even if it's bullshit. You don't have a right to your own facts, especially since you are on a website that values facts and science.

And you responded several times, so it seems you care a lot. Sorry if the truth about the laws of attracton hurts but that doesn't change the fact it is bullshit, something you claimed was backed by science but are unable to back up.

Neither you nor "science" know all there is to know. Our existing scientific knowledge may not back it up but that don't mean shit. It is possible that there is something to it, but we just don't yet have that understanding. Gravity is still a theory. So is evolution.

Post any peer-reviewed, independent research from a credentialed scientist backing up the laws of attraction bullshit. Otherwise, you are every bit as wrong as the climate science deniers and the anti-vaxxers. You are on the wrong web site with your anti-factual, anti-scientifc beliefs.

Oh, and yeah, gravity and evolution aren't just theories, they are accepted scientific fact. If you want to get conned by the woo, that is your right. We have enough attacks on science without having it on a Democratic site.

and cooling like a baked apple. Then 50ish years ago the theory of plate tectonics became the prevailing theory - now widely accepted, but that wasn't all that long ago. Our understanding of the world changes. Perhaps there is a mechanism by which LOA works and our current "science" and peer reviewed articles are not equipped to explain how it works. Maybe astrology is real too. Admittedly, I am far from a scientist, so maybe that's why I don't have the same knee jerk (and arrogant) reactions you do. Our scientific understanding of the world is constantly evolving. I'm excited to see what's next...

Then you could learn not only what's next but what has come before, such as how scientific theory like those involving evolution, physics and gravity works and how it becomes accepted fact.

I’m not a scientist I said that. And of course I know that evolution, gravity, etc. are proven. But I have a hard time with those who believe that we know all there is to know. Could it be possible that science doesn’t yet know everything? Could it be possible that there are instruments of measurement that are decades away from being developed. Perhaps 100 years from now “science” will prove there is an eternal soul or will uncover the mechanism behind how LOA works. I’m proud to have an open mind and I laugh at your snarkiness

These are your own words: "Gravity is still a theory. So is evolution." That is the same language the creationists use to imply that their "theory" is just as valid as accepted science. When you mae those comments it shows you have a lot to learn about how science workds; hence the suggestion.

And no one has said we know all there is to know That is unscientific and a deflection on your part to say that. It's not too late to learn; plenty of free online courses. Just a suggestion - you can take it or not.
