WaPo: More People Believe Biden Allegations Than Disbelieve (42-37)

Here’s where the poll gets more depressing for Democrats.

That 45-36 split on whether Trump at least applied pressure on Zelensky is actually very similar to the split on whether Biden applied pressure on Ukraine to stop investigating his son — 42 percent to 37 percent.

A plurality of Americans say it is “probably” true that Biden “put pressure on Ukrainian officials to get them not to investigate his son’s business dealings there.”

Except that that allegation is dubious at best. U.S. and Ukrainian officials have said the investigation of the company that employed Biden’s son Hunter Biden, Burisma Holdings, was dormant at the time that then-Vice President Biden was pressuring Ukraine to remove its prosecutor general. The prosecutor general himself wasn’t even investigating the Bidens, but rather the company. And even if the investigation had been ongoing, there was extensive pressure from the West to remove the prosecutor, who was accused of turning a blind eye to corruption. Biden’s effort was hardly extraordinary, relative to that of other powerful Ukraine allies.

One has an official rough transcript to support it; the other is a highly speculative claim. And yet, the American people appear to regard them approximately the same.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/10/01/ukraine-story-appears-be-hurting-trump-possibly-biden-too/

Roughly 1 in 5 Democrats believe it "probably" true about Biden, while independents are split 43-31 in favor of believing it.

primary today, I would vote for:

As they say, repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth. No matter what republican is answering which question to who on which media platform, the one common thread is corruption allegations on Biden. No matter what, no mater how ridiculous its seems at the moment, they are repeating it over and over and over again to convince a few more people that it is true every time they say it. It doesn't matter what question they are answering, they always talk about Biden and link his name to corruption. That's what they did with Hillary and that's what they're doing with Biden, and if Biden should fall, they'll do it to whoever takes his place.

Every time a GOP liar repeats the smears against Biden (or ANY Democratic candidate or figure), we immediately flood social media and local call-in shows with preposterous shit about Trump...thing is, it can't be true too - like the grabbing women, serial philanderer or constant bankruptcies.

I want to see stories about Trump punching Trudeau ina jealous rage after pictures of his wife eye fucking him again surface...

I want to hear everyone talk about how Donald Jr. is desperately having a sex change operation to get attention from his dad and how it drove his Fox strumpet to begin hitting on the Orange Blob to make Melania show human emotions instead of looking like Spock in drag...

I want to see Tiffany strip naked and run around the entry to Trump Tower yelling - "oh yeah Eric? Hold MY beer bitch!!!"

I want to hear stories of how Trump became confused and walked into the women's restroom in McDonald's and then fell asleep in a stall ... until someone called to police to report a large dead body in the bathroom...only to find out he was simply sleeping in the fetal position because he could not figure out where he was...

I want to hear stories about Ivanka finding Jared in bed with MBS and living under a death threat if she EVER utters a word to ANYONE...

I want to revive the pee-pee tape and claim that the new Hi-Def version shows Trump engaged in sexual acts with a pig, while Putin laughs as he is recording it and yelling "WOOOOO-HOOOO PIG, SOHEY!!!!" all while shaking his finger at trumpy Bear like a schoolmarm...

If they can keep making shit up and spewing it out no matter how ridiculous or debunked the claims are, well...then we can too. Besides, this kind of nonsense appeals to Trump voters on a visceral level...they can not get enough of the suffering of others to distract themselves from the horror that is a regular day in the life for them...

That poll indicates that whataboutism and other fallacies still hold sway. People that are buying into it are acting like mere news consumers munching on sound bytes rather than being vigilant and well-informed citizens. I expect that from Republicans, but for us Democrats, it is important to address this problem seriously.

I would hope that more people learn about the various fallacies and understand how they can be used to circumvent law and truth.

Maybe if it is brought up enough and the word gets around, we can counter that problem eventually. I think it is a primary issue in defeating the Republicans because that's the most important play in their game.

It is: This does NOT equal THAT. That's a separate issue. This is the actual topic right now. Focus on the offense at hand. Deflection is not appropriate here and now, etc.

It should be obvious to people, but the media tends to be rather complicit in this and that has to stop. I have seen a couple of hosts actually stick to their guns in this way when confronting it and it worked well.
