President Warren would not destroy American business

Democratic contender has prompted consternation in the corporate world

While prompting "consternation" is the US corporate world, Warren leaves at least some in the UK fairly sanguine - at least, according to this FT article.

https://www.ft.com/content/fb79f25a-e5d0-11e9-b112-9624ec9edc59

You would think Marx was moving into the White House. Elizabeth Warren’s rise to the top of the Democratic contenders for the US presidency has caused consternation in the business world.
...
Liberals in banking and tech who normally love to donate to Democrats may not even give their vote to Ms Warren. They predict a hard-left socialist agenda should she win her party’s nomination and then defeat Donald Trump in next year’s presidential election.

This reaction is not new. A decade ago, I witnessed Ms Warren’s arrival in Washington. Business hated her from the start. A Harvard law professor, she led a panel designed to scrutinise the government bailouts of banks and carmakers.

Perhaps more than anything, business people are alienated by her tone. Executives who tangle with politicians expect backslapping and back-stabbing. Ms Warren provides neither. She is the earnest professor.
...

More at the link.

That Warren promotes such "consternation" from the US corporate world is a big plus for me. She WILL hold their feet to the fire. She will not destroy the system, but she will improve it to work much better for us all.

primary today, I would vote for:

I may have registered for FT a couple years back when I was teaching Corporate Governance at a local university.

I know that I am not officially subscribed because I am not paying them anything.

But I am now in Europe and perhaps there is an automatic paywall for the US????

Sorry about that, if that is the case.

This comes two years after auto makers settled a suit by Nixon's Justice Department for conspiracy to delay the development of pollution-control devices.

The big money folks always run around Henny Penny whenever there are regulations on the horizon. They did it with Teddy Roosevelt. They did it with FDR, who was accused by the elite of waging class warfare and called, loudly and often, a socialist.

In the end, the American economy (and millionaires) did just fine - even with massive taxes on the rich - and the air is infinitely cleaner to boot.

ma-bell was broken up. I can't even begin to compare the land phone service I had during Ma-Bell versus the smart phones of today and how easily I can communicate world-wide. Before any phone call outside of my local community was "LONG DISTANCE Charges".

Business leaders hated him, but in retrospect there is a sense that he "saved capitalism from itself" and was the most important factor in preventing a Communist revolution in the US.

this gist of the article is that not only are her proposals NOT extreme, but that no President can do everything by him/herself because of our built-in electoral controls.

****
Of course, even that theory may be somewhat strained after we've seen MF45 run rampant over our electoral controls, as he continues to do.

local elections nationwide. In fact, I think that's why Warren doesn't have even more support than she has right now -- misogyny -- and she's doing quite well.

I think most of us understand what to expect. And I also think Warren can handle it and would prevail should she get the nomination. Those are the things I think, but the one thing I do know for certain is that we must never run away in fear from hatred of any kind. When we do, they win.
