Right. Even if that we true, surely he understands that passing his gun control laws or any gun control laws will require a political process. A process that can be undermined by those who overreach.

Maybe you're right -- he is unconcerned with the political process that is required for passing gun control.

It's your right to disagree with Beto, but if you aren't willing to identify the proposals that you are willing to accept as a gun rights advocate then it puts you at the other ideological end of the spectrum as Beto on gun rights. I think that the majority of the country sits somewhere between total confiscation of all guns and doing nothing. Even if Beto is considered to be an "extreme" on gun issues, the fact that there are plenty of people agree with his proposals shows that Beto is actually closer to the middle than you believe.

3. Universal background checks
4. Raising the age to purchase rifles with detachable magazines
5. Capping mags at 30
6. Increasing the time for firearm transfer when a NICS is incomplete.
7. Safe storage laws with tax incentives for safes
8. For rifles like ARs and AK-style semi-autos, create an NFA-like registration

These are all things we can do to reduce gun violence.

eta: Some have asked me in situations like this, "why can't you work together on the issues on which you agree?" The answer is that I have fight against restrictionists 100% because of the things we don't agree upon. They see gun control as a progression of ever-increasing restriction. I need restrictionists to take forced buyback, confiscations, and bans off the table to really work with any gun restrictionist.

It's true that there is decent support for forced buy backs in the public (40-50%), but I've very sure those numbers aren't evenly distributed across states, congressional districts, and electoral college votes.

I am not completely against guns since I have relatives that were hunters and also who have fought in wars. I also realize the value of a gun when attacked by animals and reptiles. I've also shot BB guns, pellet guns, and rifles before, but I never had any fascination nor desired to own any type of gun.

I agree with you on some of the points that you mentioned and would probably be a bit stricter on others. However, I do agree with Beto that the ARs and AKs types of weapons should be taken off the street as much as possible. I certainly would support voluntary buybacks and prohibiting the sale of new weapons to head in that direction

I could support a law such as a "grandfather clause" so that those who currently have the possession of those weapons would retain their right to own them; however, those rifles would be considered as non-transferable property and ownership would revert back to the state within 30 days after the death of the registered owner. It would achieve the goal of gradually reducing the supply of weapons over time.
