Has to be heavily regulated including making pimps even more illegal. Only if the sex workers have complete control will it eliminate victims of this.

It's legal and regulated in Nevada, and states have all kinds of "adult entertainment" laws that they find appropriate.

I don't understand the idea of the federal government "decriminalizing" something that it didn't criminalize in the first place.

Nevada does it poorly. Still have sex trafficking problems worse than most of the rest of the country. Still have pimps and it’s still an industry run mostly be men that victimize women.

Start charging John's with statutory rape. These women are under duress and therefore unable to consent. If that happens the traffickers will have a much harder time turning profits.

Well regulated prostitution can still exist, but they need to improve as well.

statutory rape. Some who didn't know that the prostitute was trafficked will get caught in that net, but that is the price to be paid. In any case, the prostitute should not face jail and be given help to escape that life.

On regulated prostitution, we should not rush into that. I prefer studying all places where it is legal and discussing issues that are seen with local authorities that have knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks. I think the multi-person brothel like in parts of Nevada is something that should be avoided, but what is the best system, I don't know.

We charge the victims, makingbit harder for them to escape or even seek help from authorities. The system enslaves them as much as the pimps.

An easy solution for not getting a rape charge would be to not visit an unlicensed prostitute. I've made it 35 years without thinking about it.

bondage.

I am less sure on rushing into even licensed legal prostitution without a detailed, unbiased study of places around the world where prostitution is legal.

sex trafficking. If a sex worker is working against his or her will, pimps will no longer be able to use the threat of arrest and jail to prevent the prostitute from seeking help from police and social workers. Our archaic attitudes and laws have only assisted sex traffickers keep the sex slaves in bondage.

But she wasn't clear about whether or not she supported full decriminalization for buyers as well. Some lefties do, including some she's endorsed. I'd feel better if she'd been more clear about that. I support decriminalizing for sex workers only, for the reasons you state, but not for buyers or pimps. I also think it could cost her support, however I personally feel about it.

what she means by decriminalization. I agree that people that are selling themselves against their will must be protected, that would be decriminalization for prostitutes, although it would cover people that are willingly selling themselves, for whatever reason. Pimps should get hammered, unless they are working within a state regulated structure like in Nevada. Johns that get caught should face jail and fines, drying up demand also helps reduce sex trafficking.

On legalization, I am philosophically for that as long as we study places where it has been implemented and reduced crimes like sex trafficking and violence against sex workers. We should not just rush into legalization without clearly having an idea of where we are going.

I think it's the other way around. I won't support a candidate who wants to fully legalize prostitution for buyers, even though I support decriminalization otherwise. It's actually deal-breaker for me.

Or, really, when presidential candidates propose detailed legislative plans, as if we were electing a party in a parliamentary system.

I would prefer that they simply campaign on the kinds of things they would support or oppose, and get away from nonsense like this where the federal government doesn't have much authority anyway.

Aside from some limited things like the Mann Act (transporting prostitutes across state lines), it's not as if the federal government has "criminalized" sex work in the first place.

Just silly. And I'm a Warren supporter. I realize candidates do these things, but it annoys me anyway.

It did us a lot of harm in 2016, a lot. We just didn't understand how plain middle class folk would view it. Obama IMO went too far too fast. To this day I believe the 2016 Presidential race would have been even closer if we had just tabled it until after the election, which is to say, HRC would have won. All conjecture i know, but that's how I see it.
