Unbelievable: Failed smears only make Elizabeth Warren stronger as new Dem front-runner

Interesting comparison.

https://www.inquirer.com/columnists/attytood/elizabeth-warren-pregnancy-smear-metoo-democratic-front-runner-20191010.html

...
It’s hard not to notice that Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has surged in recent weeks to the very top of the Democratic 2020 polls — Real Clear Politics, which aggregates all the leading polls, just moved her ahead of the no-longer-inevitable Joe Biden — at the same time that the office-water-cooler show all your coworkers are talking about is Netflix’s Unbelievable.

For sure, the core premise of the series — which starts with the agony of a troubled teen struggling and initially failing to convince detectives she is the victim of a horrific sexual assault, and then pans out more widely to the search for a serial rapist — has nothing overtly to do with electoral politics.

But the underlying angst of Unbelievable — the power dynamics of a society where too many women are not only unheard but unheeded — is very much the same wave of righteous fury that propelled the 2017 Women’s March, the #MeToo movement, and a record number of new women in Congress.

With the calendar flipping toward 2020, Elizabeth Warren is surfing atop that tsunami, backwards and in high heels. Her steady climb in the polls has moved her campaign from the “first they ignore you” mode into the stage of “then they fight you,” with increasingly nervous billionaires and card-carrying members of the vast right-wing conspiracy looking to attack her as dangerous, shrill, not likable enough, (insert misogynist trope here) — and unbelievable.

Warren is NOT corrupt. With her I have the confidence that she is out for the American people and not being hijacked, policy-wise, by some corporate lobby interest. Not disparaging the other candidates or suggesting any of them are corrupt. It is just that I like Warren's policies, her bold vision, AND the lack of corruption.

change daily, So she'll probably be up again soon.

I predict a lot of see-sawing in the polls.

But the crucial point is that she is steadily up there and Biden's inevitability as a front-runner is indeed being challenged.

I believe that we'll see this happening in other areas of the country sooner rather than later.

But it's an exciting time for anyone who is a Democrat because we have so many good candidates.

....start dropping out the remaining 21.5% (plus 9.5% undecided) will be going somewhere.

People talk about Warren zooming to the lead if/when BS drops out, but her support + his is only 41. There really are no other "progressive" candidates other than them, so I would suspect most of their support will go to Biden.

But the real key is where they all stand in the four early states and the Super Tuesday states. We'll have a really good idea who our nominee is after March 3.

22. Clinton Lost By Less Than 80,000 Votes, So No Woman Can Ever Win
Sat Oct 12, 2019, 08:18 AM
Oct 2019

The tally of Pennsylvania’s votes, where Trump won 2,961,875 votes to Clinton’s 2,915,440, was a difference of 46,435 votes. Add that to the official results out of Wisconsin, where Clinton lost by 22,177 votes, and Michigan, which she lost by 10,704 votes.

So, 0.057 percent of total voters cost Clinton the presidency.

Keep in mind that:

A) In the last 10 weeks of the campaign, Clinton gave one speech in Michigan and zero speeches in Wisconsin. Trump made made 106 campaign stops during that time, Clinton made only 71.

B) James Comey is still a douchebag.

C) No one knew that Trump would govern from the extreme right. People (stupid ones) thought he was an independent swamp-drainer who would bring tons of jobs to the Rust Belt, make brilliant trade deals, and make Mexico pay for a gleaming new wall.

D) Relatedly, many people saw Trump as an outsider and Clinton as an establishment politician at a time when anti-establishment sentiment was especially high. Trump can hardly say the same as he has now made the entire GOP in his image.

E) Lots of people - guided by media reports suggesting as much - thought Clinton was nailed on to win, so didn't bother to turn out or thought they could safely vote for a third party candidate.

F) Trump did not yet have a majority of Americans asking to have him impeached.

----

Clinton and Warren are both women. But the candidates are quite different and circumstances are extremely different.
