Bennet walks the middle, hoping to catch fire in presidential race: 'I have a chance to win'
He's seeking to forge a path to the White House by avoiding extremes on the left and the right.
Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., campaigned Friday in Arizona on his moderate views, drawing attention to his calls for universal preschool, economic mobility and restoring faith in institutions he says are under attack by President Donald Trump.
Bennet is languishing in the polls and in fundraising. He did not qualify to appear on the debate stage next week alongside his Democratic rivals. But he still sees a chance that his message could catch fire with middle America, he told The Arizona Republics political podcast The Gaggle.
Im still doing this because I think I have a chance to win, he said.
Im still doing this because I think that we need to unify the country and that the Twitter storms that happen every day, whether theyre generated by the president or someone else, politicians just find themselves swinging from one direction to the other.
