Elizabeth Warren Locks Herself Into Bernie's Medicare for All: 'That's My Plan'

https://www.mediaite.com/news/elizabeth-warren-locks-herself-into-bernies-medicare-for-all-thats-my-plan/

Massachusetts Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren locked herself in on Bernie Sanders’ specific “Medicare for All” plan in a post-debate interview, despite recent signals of a pivot away from that plan.

The most consequential moment of debate night may have come long after the podia were vacated, as Warren sat for an interview with CNN’s post-debate panel of analysts. It was just a few seconds during a lengthy segment in which the group took turns failing to get Warren to say taxes will go up for middle-class families under the plan, but it could have strong political ripples.

During this interview, Warren had already echoed her previous feints at a pivot away from Sanders’ plan, calling Medicare for All “the right approach,” but former Obama adviser David Axelrod got the senator to remove all doubt.

“Are you saying that the Medicare for All bill that is in the Senate, that you signed on to, Bernie Sanders’ bill, is the plan that you are running on, and the plan that you will try and implement when you become, if you become president of the United States, you’re not going to have your own plan, you’re satisfied with Sander’s plan?”

“That’s my plan,” Warren said. “I think it’s a good plan.”

It is not popular when folks learn they lose their work insurance...it would be a mess to try to get and we will probably end up with nothing...make no sense to start from scratch when we can add a public option to the ACA and go that route.

Medicare for All is a losing proposition. Healthcare and climate change are the two biggest issues for 2020. The public option is not only realistic, it's the public's choice in all the polls. Between this the Wealth Tax (something Yang spoke directly to), Warren will not be competitive in the General.

And that is unacceptable.

To the very predictable RW attacks that will come in the general election. “You will lose your work insurance and your taxes will go up”.

People who are inclined to dig into policies already know the republicans have no plan except to make healthcare worse.

“Yes you will lose your work insurance and your taxes will go up but trust us you will be covered just as well or better and most people will save” might be true but is a lousy way to convince people.

Can someone give me reasons to believe there’s a more convincing argument in the general election?

I want healthcare as a right. The only way to get that is to win the presidency and the senate and to retain them until the benefits of our policy becomes obvious.

We can not afford to run a nominee on a politically suicidal plan.

This election is far to important to lose.
