for Congress.. again!

That means We the People get a real Democratic for our Representative!

But local insiders say a primary challenge from state Sen. Kai Kahele is to be taken seriously, in part because he already has high-profile support among towering local officials.

That includes three former governors in the local Democratic establishment: Neil Abercrombie, Ben Cayetano and John Waihee, who don't often appear as a bloc.

"That gives a pretty good indication of how the mainstream Democratic Party here regards her," said Colin Moore, director of the Public Policy Center at the University of Hawaii.

Kahele told CNN on Monday that his campaign had its best day of fundraising when Gabbard and Clinton clashed.
Gabbard has not formally announced a reelection bid for her House seat. Candidates have until June 2, 2020, to file for that November's election.

We don't need those votes, because we were never going to get them anyway. If you are struggling to vote for a democrat, then you aren't going to vote for one. Best outcome for us is they stay home, worst is they hold their nose and vote for Trump. If Tulsi gives them a safe place to cast a protest vote without casting it for Trump, that's a win.

Honestly, anyone who shows up and votes for a 3rd party candidate in this climate was never going to vote to the democrat anyway. It doesn't cost us anything.

not going to Wisconsin and Michigan enough and say that's why she lost? There are a few Never Trumpers who could vote Democratic I think (although the Trump voters who voted for Obama have become more partisan and racist). I'm not confident that people have learned their lesson about third party candidates. There were people in 2016 who said they didn't vote because they didn't think their vote would make any difference. This, after Bush/Gore. After many very close races in some states.

The Democratic nominee will be harmed by the usual barrage of corrupt-warmonger-neoliberal-racist accusations and the Republican socialist-big government-PC propaganda. Third party could get enough votes in swing states to harm the Democrat.

No. There are documented voters in swing states who voted for Obama who did vote for Trump in 2016. They're not plugged in like you and I are and they're definitely not our base, nor are they are brightest voters but they're still voters, and we need them to flip these states.

I'm an avid don't bother trying to flip Trump's base person (documented on DU since the site came back up post 2016 hack) but we cannot win the electoral college without these swing vote people. Agree with them or not, they're the deal breakers and the GOP knows this simple fact. Thus their hopes on a Tulsi's 'Hail Mary' type play here. It makes sense on their part, just not on here if she's legit a patriot and a Democrat.

Honestly, anyone who shows up and votes for a 3rd party candidate in this climate was never going to vote to the democrat anyway. It doesn't cost us anything.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I wish this were true. Again, unplugged people in fragile (fine, they're not bright and they sway in the wind like ripe wheat) districts we need to win 270 Electoral Votes are easily influenced by this type of crap. It's literally how Trump got in last time. Read up on it.

She wasn't going to make the debate stage in November so a stunt was required as she was desperate to get attention. Recent polls don't show a convincing response. So basically, her campaign for 2020 leadership of the Democrats has failed.

The primary contender for her seat in Hawaii looks like he was beating her with raising money in Hawaii.

New poll shows favor for Kahele in Gabbard's district
https://www.kitv.com/story/41142391/new-poll-shows-favor-for-kahele-in-gabbards-district

"Two out of three Democratic primary voters in Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District say U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard should give up her presidential aspirations, according to a new survey released Tuesday by Public Policy Polling.

...
One of the more concerning numbers for Gabbard is that 50% of Democratic primary voters said they would prefer to vote for someone else in the upcoming CD2 election."

After she supported Sanders in 2016, her political fortunes went south
https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2019/10/tulsi-gabbard-with-hawaii-donors-house-challenge/

GOP power brokers probably see her as a potential Jill Stein. Promoting her on FOX News probably helps her siphon off Trump voters more than Democrats.

She was my least favorite Dem candidate. I didn't trust her. Her recent actions underscore why I might have felt that way.

I think this one is going to backfire against the GOP. She's going to pull Republicans and "Indys" that simply "can't" vote D but want any excuse to do that and also not vote for Trump. People know better this time.

I don't see it. I guess it would be nice to appeal to the soccer mom republicans who can not stomach trump, but maybe those voters would split their ticket and vote for repub senators etc.

I would agree with you that energizing our base is NOT divisive and, in fact, is the route to the greater victory.

be our rep! I saw what you posted about Auntie Pilahi but I hadn't "Read More" so I didn't exactly know what it meant.. except what I got from your context.

I know TG isn't straight up.. and appropriates anything she wants to fit her narrative.. like this from Shery Campagna..
