Tulsi Gabbard Criticizes 'Partisan' Impeachment Inquiry: 'It Needs to be a Transparent Process'

Tulsi Gabbard has poured cold water on the impeachment inquiry, raising concerns about its transparency and suggesting it is being run in a "partisan" way.

The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate told Fox News host Sean Hannity that she didn't know what was going on at the "closed door" hearings being held in the Capitol's basement, and said Americans "deserved to know exactly what the facts are."

Her comments on the impeachment inquiry echoed criticisms made by House Republicans, who tried to storm the secure room where testimonies were being heard behind closed doors on Wednesday.

The stunt was widely derided by Democrats, with 2020 candidate Pete Buttigieg saying it was an "embarrassment" and Rep. Ro Khanna, who was in the room, saying it resembled a "fraternity" scene.

It's not uncommon for conservatives to do that, of course, the longer Democrats have had a lock on offices the more common. Far less common for unscrupulous liberals to deceptively run as conservative in conservative districts, but that happens too.

I certainly have. But this report of her conversation with Hannity has gone too far. She is NOT representing a Democratic Party POV. She's wandered way off the political spectrum. She should know very well that the inquiry is following a specific path for an impeachment that is stated clearly in the Constitution. But instead she is mirroring Hannity's talking points. She is mirroring the GOP distraction strategy. If this is how she plans to establish a base, then she's not in the running. She is positioning herself as a woman who has no place to go except into Trumpy's camp.

Here's what will now happen. Gabbard will continually get funded by right wing elements in the GOP and get enough media coverage to make it into the next debate. She'll act as the voice of Trumpy on the stage, and the other Dem candidates will give her soft criticisms. This will allow her to siphon off a portion of votes away from the top tier of candidates. She'll be seen as the GOP's rising star and an advocate for Trumpy's dictatorship.

It's not a good idea to trust this woman. She's simply bad news.

The investigation for all impeachments, like any criminal investigation, has been behind closed doors.

14. Gabbard has demonstrated that she doesn't understand Government
Fri Oct 25, 2019, 09:02 AM
Oct 2019

Her calls for "transparency" are either ignorant or purposefully misleading. In either case, she's making stupid noises that disqualify her for the presidency or even for the office she current holds.

Gabbard is a member of the House but she clearly doesn't understand the rules and procedures of that body. The process for an Impeachment Inquiry was designed by Republicans led by John Boehner. The depositions and testimonies that the investigative committees are engaged in are supposed to be secret, just as are Grand Jury proceedings, (which this phase of the House's process emulate). In spite of the closed doors, however, the hearings are held before both the Democrats and Republicans who are members of the relevant committees. Both sides participate in the process.

Should the committees determine that Trump committed high crimes and misdemeanors or other acts that warrant impeachment, they will then present their evidence to the full House to debate if Impeachment is the proper course. There's your transparency, Tulsi.

That Gabbard doesn't know this stuff illustrates her unfitness for office. She's been in office for about 7 years and she still hasn't learned how Congress works?!

It's pathetic.

Or it's political in which case I'm baffled why she spouts GOP positions.

She basically gets her talking points from the Republicans. And with those come the lies and dishonesty.
It becomes clearer each day that Clinton had her reasons for her remarks and some will still find ways to blame her.

It looks as if Gabbard joining the Repubs or making a third party run is indeed a possibility. She clearly isn't running for the Dem nomination. No one can be this deluded to believe that you can win over the Dem primary electorate by acting like a Repub. And it's not as if she was mirroring a moderate Repub either. It's the Clinton hating conspiracy nutjob Repub.

Her comments and appearances on Fox are highly useful to republican interests. They harm the impeachment effort by impeding the impeachment strategy to win over public opinion. We should ask ourselves why she is working so hard to curry favor with the right. And also troubling, she is about the only democrat that Trump has praised in a tweet.

Also, she dismissed the Mueller Report immediately after its release, using republican talking points about how it showed no collusion; she didn't broach anything about the election meddling or obstruction of justice. Indeed, she said we should "move on".

At the last debate, she tried (and failed) to twist the debate into something else by attempting to question the nominees and get them agree to pledges.

I've been concerned about what role she will take in the 2020 election for some time. The events of the past couple of weeks only add to my suspicion. It is clear she has an agenda.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
