(5,376 posts)Warren continues to gather support with Black voters, there is a great South Carolina poll that shows this too.
The latest survey shows that Biden took a hit among women, especially African-Americans, months before the Feb. 29 primary.
He lost 13 percentage points among the crucial bloc who are part of the majority of S.C. Democratic primary voters. Biden is down 10 percentage points among all S.C. women.

(5,803 posts)So, before we chastise AAs, can we address voter disenfranchisement and gerrymandering and set the record straight on voter turnout?

(52,162 posts)Our Congressional maps in NC are gerrymandered with the precision of a surgeon. That district was, and still is, about 57% GOP voters (not GOP voter ID but GOP voters). The only reasons it was close was a fantastic candidate on our side, Trump, and a scandal over votes in the first run. By no means was that ever going to be an easy win.

(428 posts)So yea it should have been an easy win
Hell, they should have run that through the courts to just disqualify the GOP candidate for that race because of cheating instead of doing a new race
and the DNC should have challenged in court that the GOP needed to pay for the cost of the whole election because of the cheating if they wanted to be a part of a new race
they charge parties for recounts they damn well should be charging them for a new race when one side has clearly committed fraud on the electorate.

(52,162 posts)so they didn't get stuck with the one who committed the fraud (who also had other problems). This district was GOP since 1963. It was won by 5 or more every election from 2012 through 2016. In 2018 we lost by a handful of votes after fraud. the rematch was lost by less than 1 percent.

(9,116 posts)But being a prosecutor would probably not endear her to a demographic routinely subjected to prosecutorial overreach. Also, she criticized Joe Biden's positions on race, which, as Biden is popular with African Americans, could have backfired.
Also, Quinnipiac could be really bad at sampling African Americans. I dunno.

(42,862 posts)I can't believe he did that. Or, more accurately, I should say... I can't believe that anyone thought it wouldn't make a difference. It's plain to see that the BS campaign is already struggling in getting any meaningful support from the AA (and POC) community and the "smart money" would have placed a bet on the candidate AT LEAST making an effort. But, I guess the pundits and others are correct when they say that the BS campaign has just "written off" the support of the AA and POC communities.
All I'm saying is that it was a mistake. He really needs the help. It was another opportunity that slipped through his fingers. At this rate, it's becoming clearer and clearer that BS won't be our party's nominee.

(10,830 posts)All these candidates have introduced themselves to the country via ads, debates and interviews. There's no mystery about Biden's strong support within the African American community. He's been there, on the ground working in the civil rights arena and nurturing relationships and associations for years and years. Who are you going to trust more--the guy who has lived on the block for decades, worked shoulder-to-shoulder with you or someone who just helicoptered in saying they're on your side, even though they have little evidence to offer?
Carol Moseley Braun wrote a glowing endorsement for Joe Biden just the other day. Why? Because she worked with him for years while she was in the Senate working on common interest issues. Biden's numbers are high in South Carolina. Why? Because he has decades of associations in the state, has developed and nurtured long-term friendships with politicians and citizens alike. And yes, he was Barack Obama's Veep, established a strong connection to the man and the family and has always been a strong advocate of the Obama Administration. People remember things like that.
Biden's strength is more than simple name recognition. He is a pragmatic liberal who appeals to those of us in the moderately liberal to moderate camp of the Party. And that swath of the Democratic Party? Despite all the bellowing, that slightly liberal to moderate highway represents the majority of our electorate, POC and whites alike.
So does the Quinnipiac poll surprise me? No, it does not.
