Politico: Biden throws his campaign a lifeline

[link:https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/25/joe-biden-super-pac-fundraising-058022|

A strategic retreat on super PAC funding could pay big dividends.

By NATASHA KORECKI, MARC CAPUTO and MAGGIE SEVERNS 10/25/2019 06:59 PM EDT

By reversing course and dropping his opposition to super PACs, Joe Biden has all but admitted he’s getting swamped in fundraising.

But it was a strategic retreat that could end up paying big dividends for his cash-starved campaign.

Calls to a half-dozen maxed-out Biden donors Friday revealed that they would gladly dig deeper for the former vice president and contribute to a super PAC that enables them — and corporations — to give and spend unlimited amounts of money.

“Joe Biden has not raised as much money as the others through his own campaign efforts. But you have to understand, that’s basically how it works. Bernie Sanders had, what, 20,000 people at an event in New York? Suppose each one of those people gave $100,” said Joe Cotchett, a major Bay Area bundler for Biden. “Does Joe have the ability to have 20,000 people at a rally right now? The answer is no. But hopefully for Joe, it will come.”

President Obama did it?

Then in spite of any indication that he will not go negative against his fellow Democratic candidates, some have already concluded he will

Disagreeing with candidates on how to approach various issues is not going negative

Trump received 125 + in the third quarter. That is a hell of a lot more than 35 million. Buys a lot of expensive TV ads

You change things after you win, not before, to give advantage to the republicans
However, why this should seem bother those who seem upset about this is beyond me, because they seem to imply this will hurt not help him, and obviously don’t feel you need that much to win elections anyway

Their concerns, or lack of confidence about this are noted

It’s disappointing that any Democratic candidate would reverse course and endorse the use of unlimited contributions from the wealthy to run against fellow Democrats. A handful of wealthy donors should not be allowed to buy the Democratic nomination. That’s not who we are.

https://www.boston.com/news/politics/2019/10/25/elizabeth-warren-joe-biden-super-pacs

By all means use every weapon available in the GE, but this is a Super PAC which will be used against fellow Democrats in the primaries. What's next, dropping the promise of a positive campaign too?

Biden's words are Biden's words.

It's hard to misinterpret Biden's own words to Judy Woodruff on PBS NewsHour in 2018:

Biden: I Told Bernie Sanders Not To Accept PAC Money, That People Wouldn't Trust You

In an interview with PBS NewsHour host Judy Woodruff, former Vice President Joe Biden revealed he advised 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders that he shouldn't take any money from political action committees, "because people can't possibly trust you."

"My positions are a hell of a lot closer to Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders on some of the economic positions," Biden said about a potential 2020 run for president.

"I sat with Bernie," Biden said of his meeting with the Clinton rival. "I’m the guy that told him, you shouldn’t accept any money from a super PAC, because people can’t possibly trust you. How will a middle-class guy accept if you accept money?"

World leaders tell Biden: We need you
The former vice president would bring deep relationships and heavyweight credentials to a 2020 Democratic field lacking in national security experience.
