Bernie vs Warren

I was asked here today how I could possibly have Warren as my candidate selection and hate Bernie. The question was asked since their policies are similar.

My answer.

sheshe2 (59,160 posts)
113. Well, first of all, she is my Senator.

I voted for her twice and met her once. She is brilliant, witty and an energetic speaker. While some of their policies may be similar, I also use a yardstick when considering a candidate. I measure their lists of accomplishments along with their policies.

Here is a sample and this was only through 2016.

1. In 2011, while working as an assistant for President Obama, Warren single-handedly conceived of and established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a watchdog agency that helps protect the little guy from Wall Street’s dirty schemes. Thanks to the newly-formed agency, mortgage lenders can no longer push you into a loan you cannot afford. And these servicers now have to make a good faith effort to keep you out of foreclosure. If they don’t, they face hefty civil penalties.

It’s not just mortgage companies and big banks that now have to sleep with their eyes open. Credit card companies also now have to play by the rules. In 2012, the bureau ordered three American Express subsidiaries to pay out $85 million to over 250,000 customers they screwed over through illegal practices.

Warren managed to do all of this even while the GOP did everything in their power to cockblock it. And when they failed that mission, they bitched and moaned and managed to prevent her from being nominated head of the CFPB. She then used their tantrum as a pathway to run for Senate.

And she won. Easily.

3. In only three years, she has sponsored at least 36 bills, including the Equal Employment Act for All, the Schedules That Work Act, the Trade Transparency Act, and the Fed Accountability Act. She consistently fights for legislation that champions for women’s rights, paid family leave, low-wage workers, fair trade and affordable education.

Data did show, posted here, that many of them voted for Trump. And, really, while Sanders never used the term "carnage" both appealed to the same crowd - how horrible life was (for some, still is).

And in a sad repeat of 1968, many chose to stay home.

Writing and developing the Financial Protection Bureau was certainly a wonderful achievement by Warren!. It is just too bad that Obama wouldn't appoint Warren head of the agency. Of course, Wall street didn't want that to happen so it didn't.

Fighting and co-sponsoring legislation is good, but actually passing bills and amendments is the real accomplishment. I am hoping that Bernie can show her how to take all those wonderful ideas and push them through Congress. When he was in the house, he was known as the "Amendment King". And he definitely knows how to work across the aisle. Hopefully, below is an example of at least 5 major successes. The Senate even made him Chair of the Veterans Affairs and he eliminated the hospital waiting lists for veterans.

He has had years of experience and knows how to get the job done!!

Bernie has caucused for years with the democrats. And by caucusing with the dems he was able to prevent Cheney from interfering when Bush was in office.

He was also appointed CHAIR of the Veterans Affairs .......that is a leadership position in the democratic party. He has done more than a lot of democrats.

How can you support Warren when you appear to be against many of the things she's for?

M4A for example. You have trashed single payer on here for years.

Likewise, taking on Wall Street. one of Warren's main issues, and one you have endlessly mocked and bashed Sanders over.

So how do you reconcile support for Warren with her support for things you are against?

I stated not long ago that I would prefer she build on ACA which was always meant to be single payer. We did not have the votes. I would prefer to build on the foundation we have and not tear it all down and rebuild from scratch.

Link to all the times I trashed single payer...was that when I brought up VT and CA who tried to pass it and found that they did not have the money to pay for it? Was that when I trashed it, Melman? When you do NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY for it then it will not work.

Likewise, taking on Wall Street. one of Warren's main issues, and one you have endlessly mocked and bashed Sanders over.

Funny. Guess you have no clue what her baby which she built from scratch, CFPB was all about. Guess you did not read the links or the OP. Fact is Warren has already taken on Wall Street and will continue to do...while BS just rails on about it. She tackled them, kneed them in the groin and gave them a wedgie to boot...without breaking a nail.

I only have issues with people that talk the talk not ones that actually walk the walk. Warren did.

You said "many things". So, since you seem to be following me very closely, uncomfortably close. I have problems and a solution for one thing I have an issue with. The second blew up on ya because you were wrong and my OP supports how wrong you are.

Anything else Melman?

PS: My Senator has sass and class. She talks the talk, walks the walk and can do it dancing backwards in heels.

A: The ACA with a public option is more realistic than Medicare for All until we get large majorities in the legislature.

B: Centrist. Millions will die without M4A but the insurance and Pharma industries will do anything to stop it. Wealthy conservatives like you don't care as long as you've got your own.

But I wish she would try something a bit less than medicare for all because I am afraid its her biggest problem for getting elected. I think it would be a good program but too hard to pass.

Everyone I talk to that is voting for someone else tell me they love her but afraid she won’t beat Trump because of it.

The good part of that I see is that she has so many that really like her even if afraid to vote for her, now she just needs to find a way to calm their fears.
