(10,837 posts)we're going to find out if unrealistic promises effect support and votes within the Democratic Party. We've seen this play out on the other side; it's the nature of populism.
Some people will believe the spin because they want to believe, are even desperate to believe. Some will discount the spin and say the effort is in the right place/direction, therefore the hype is forgivable. Others, however, will reject the spun promises and the candidate's approach.
We shall see.

(7,509 posts)People are allowed to make campaign promises, and to attempt to keep that campaign promise while in office despite the obstacles that come in their way.
You look extremely weak when you say we must necessarily capitulate to Republican or conservative intransigence.

(45,506 posts)Life isn't fair and we won't know what promises they can't keep until they try. It's pointless saying we can't fight for something because we might not win.
We should try for bold reforms and settle for more moderate compromises. We should never start with compromise.

(12,165 posts)Most voters know that the planets will need to align for the most ambitious policy proposals to become reality.
The primary is the time when the party decides which direction it wants to go. Its democracy at its finest. The most engaged groups in the coalition will be the most passionate when the general election rolls around.
