Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumGood God almighty, these election cycles are just too long..
Seriously, too long. Six months is plenty of time for people to get their messages out before they go broke or into debt. This is ludicrous.

(17,235 posts)I would like to see 2 months, start to finish. The whole process becomes very stale and boring. The money spent by the ALL of the candidates collectively is grossly insane.

(1,402 posts)I've said this from the very beginning, that is why I won't watch the debates. It is stupid and ludicrous!! I think the media and other just encourage it to make more money. By the time the election rolls around, I don't even care if I vote at all because I am so sick and tired of it. Most of us have known all along, who we are going to vote for. STOP THE SENSATIONALISM.

(7,358 posts)We are not having anywhere near fair elections. The very nature of our electoral system is the antithesis to Democracy. It's a sham. And a shame. These long drawn out primaries are ridiculous. Campaign finance reform is needed but will never be taken up by either party. It's time for a revolution.

(94,699 posts)It has to do with when political people decide they want to become President and act in support of that.
If Elizabeth Warren goes to Michigan to campaign for a House candidate in 2018, is she "running for President"? When Cory Booker gave a speech at the 2016 Convention is he "officially" a Presidential candidate?

(47,567 posts)This is overkill, I'm already tuning out. As soon as one election cycle ends, another one begins. The president, senators, and congressional representatives are in perpetual campaign mode instead of actually doing their jobs.

(94,699 posts)If you're willing to leave that choice to the DNC, our Presidential campaign drops to three months. Deal?

(25,598 posts)Henry Miller: "In America, with all those firecrackers they put up your ass to give you pep and courage ... . Over there you think nothing but becoming the President of the United States some day. Potentially every man is presidential timber. Here it's different, Here every man is potentially a zero. If you become something or somebody it is an accident, a miracle."
