Biden camp: Graham 'forfeited his conscience' over Ukraine

https://www.politico.com/news/2019/11/22/lindsey-graham-biden-campaign-ukraine-072910

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign accused Sen. Lindsey Graham of having “forfeited his conscience” for requesting State Department records concerning the former vice president’s efforts to oust a corrupt Ukrainian prosecutor in 2016.

The broadside against Graham signaled a new phase of the Biden campaign’s counterattack against President Donald Trump — whose attempts to have Biden and his son investigated in Ukraine have led to his looming impeachment — by pointing out that congressional Republicans saw no scandal regarding the Bidens until it became a political issue for Trump.

“Trump is now counting on his Republican enablers in the Senate to bail him out,” Biden spokesman Andrew Bates told POLITICO. “Driven by fear of a mean tweet, they are falling in line, peddling the same disproven lies we’ve heard for months. Lindsey Graham has forfeited his conscience to escape a primary.”

Asked for comment, Graham’s Senate office said via email that “[Chairman] Adam Schiff and the Democrat-controlled House Intel Committee have made it clear they will not look into the issues surrounding Hunter Biden and Burisma. Senator Graham is requesting documents which could shed additional light on these outstanding issues.”

-snip-

Graham said nothing of the controversy in 2016, but he did get choked up at the time in an interview recalling his close friendship with Biden, whom he described as a family man.

To the degree other congressional Republicans discussed Biden’s activities in Ukraine in 2016, they were supportive of his efforts to oust the corrupt prosecutor.

-snip-

“Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress for most of the last five years and said or did nothing to indicate they thought that this warranted attention,” Biden’s spokesman, Bates, said. “As recently as a few weeks ago, Lindsay Graham said that such an investigation would be a circus. What changed?”

This is BOGUS, and we all need to be saying so clearly. (the media, to their credit, HAS tried to some extent). Joe Biden joined the international community in calling for the ouster of a corrupt prosecutor. End of story. The rumor mill involving Biden/Ukraine originated with Russian operatives. End of story.

Republican senators need to start answering the question, "Why do all roads lead to Putin?"

That Bill Clinton deserved to be so due to his behavior and Trump does not for much worse behavior.

Trump and Putin have something on Graham tht Graham does not want made public. What else could it be?

Yes, I can see a lot of these Republicans toeing the line for fear of being primaried. But Graham's turnabout with his relationship to Trump, that ridiculous display of faux rage during Kavanaugh's confirmation and now this insistence on yet another investigation into the Bidens speaks to something more. More nefarious, I suspect. As in, being complicit and/or compromised by Trump or Putin's goons.

I agree with Greg Sargent's recent column: shame has no effect on these pols and 'we' (that would be the press for the most part) need to accept the fact that the majority of these Republicans are in on the take, the con and grift. They're defending Trump because they're defending their own asses, as well as the seductive promise of continued goodies from all the wrong places. The entire Party is corrupt, rotten to the core. That includes Lindsey Graham who sold his soul and the country's security. They simply don't care anymore; there's too much at stake. Like a jail cell, a full repudiation of who and what they've become.

This is going to be a fight to the death.

primary today, I would vote for:

Trump got the Lindsey somehow. money, promise of access to him and his hotels????

.............Another Republican senator, Ohio’s Rob Portman, last month told The Columbus Dispatch that Shokin was corrupt, contrary to Trump’s claims. Portman stood by a bipartisan letter he signed that was sent to the Ukrainian president in 2016 to oust the prosecutor. Biden, his son and Burisma never came up as an issue.

“That didn’t even enter into our calculus as far as I know, one way or the other. It certainly didn’t into mine,” Portman said. “Because that was something that nobody was even talking about.”

Neither Portman nor Johnson’s offices returned a request for comment.
